Even IF / When Sneijder signs - Utd still need a dm / cm type player , even if you consider Fletcher and or Carrick to be good enough (latter isnt really a dm at all, more like a deep -laying playmaker) for the higher echelons of Europe neither is a DM and now Hargreaves has left the squad, there is a requirement to be filled.

United have never played with a defensive midfielder, it's not Fergie's style. We accommodated Keane in the team in his later years in that type of role because of his influence on the team due to the lack of experience around him (Fletcher, Ronaldo, Rooney all in their teens at that time)

Even those that see Hargreaves as a defensive player he was always more box to box for us proved by the fact he played right wing in the Champions League final so I disagree; a midfield with Sneijder, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson & Giggs gives us more than enough options next season and then next summer should Giggs retire we bring in Nasri on a free to replace him

Pretty sure the twitter account of Macheda is fake. His twitter name is supposedly machedinho27, which quite frankly is ridiculous.

Nah it is his legit page, the tweet in question was promptly removed after he probably got the hair dryer :p

Kenny hates foreigners.

Kenny loves paying over the odds.

Both of the above.

?

Luis Suarez tells you to **** off :p

And don't pin all this on the King. Comolli spent (relatively) big money on british players during his time at Spurs too.

And just like with Adam and his set-play stats; Downing's created more goalscoring chances from open play than any player in the Premier League over the last 3 seasons (via OptaJoe :p), which I'm sure Comolli likes.

I can see Liverpool being a major force next season. If suarez plays the way he was at the end of season, Carroll plays well like he did before his injury. You now have Downing and Adams to provide the crosses for Carroll and as long as the defence stays tight then I would say top 3/4 finish

Lot of ifs there :p

Downing is a good player, He has a bad image amongst England fans because steve maclaren put him in the England squad before he was ready and he was a bit useless, He for what ever reason hasn't managed to shrug that unfair opinion, he has matured a lot as a player and is a good wide man,

He is still not 20 million good though imo#

Villa looking very dodgy at moment,

I'm sure your attempts to emulate Martin O'Neill's Villa will be just as successful as he was there.

Until Carroll gets injured, that is.

The problem is Downing is rubbish at crossing, ever since his Boro days.

Whilst I'm not particularly down on downing (excuse the pun) what exactly are you basing him being a good player on? One good season at Villa?

I remember as a teen Downing was the next big thing, being linked with everyone then it all kinda stagnated at Boro and although he's only been at Villa 18 months (is it) it's last season that's been his best to date.

He's made a smart move moving from Villa now tbh not much loyalty shown to them but with no Young the expectancy would have been through the roof for Downing to be the main creative player at Villa next season so maybe to keep progressing it's a good move to move to Liverpool where they'll be less pressure on him to do everything.

I agree Villa look ****ed next season, given his previous I reckon this time next year Bent will be wanting to move on, that's if he's not already regretting going there in the first place.

We were better when he wasn't available last season :p

We're not emulating O'Neill's Villa, we're emulating Dalglish's '87 side. The similarities between Barnes, Beardsley and Aldo to Downing, Suarez and Carroll are clear, lets just hope they work just as well together.
