How many of them are subs though. Being 20 and playing 100+ games alone for Barcelona is good enough for most teams!

Bojan has never really impressed me neither, he has no 'special' ability, not particularly good at finishing, he isn't very quick, not tall for heading, etc etc

he played a lot when Ibra fell out of favour and they didnt have Villa so he has had a lot of playing time, he wasn't just a last minute sub, Larsson at 34 as a sub for Barca made 2 assists in a champions league final to win them the game.

Bojan isn't that good, he could maybe do a job in the Scottish league, but even then, i doubt anybody could afford his wages.

he isn't worth the risk, thats why barca have basically paid someone to see if he is worth it or not, because they can no longer afford to keep playing him.

+1

he has had the best role models, coaches, trainers, etc in the world, which have more than likely made him reach his potential or nearly there, he needs experience to perfect his game, but i dont think he will ever be good enough for a top 4 team or Barca.

he may be good to use as a sub, the same way liverpool used ngog, babel, etc, but never a first team player.

The thing is you will always assume players who havent quite made it at "big" clubs are better than they are when they have come through the youth team.

Maybe Bojan is only not a regular at Barca because of the quality of their other players and he must be good to have made the breakthrough into the first team squad.

or

Bojan wouldnt command a second look were he not at a huge club like Barca and he is made to look good by the players around him.

Ive seen this with quite a few players at Man Utd. Problem is its really only once the player has been signed for another team that it can be proved conclusively so the buying club are always taking a bit of a chance.

name a decent team who would take a 20 year old who is a 5 foot 7 and in over 100 first team appearances as a striker for Barcelona only scored 26 times with the best players around him.

in the premiership he would be lucky to score 1 goal in 10 games. he simply isnt that good. whether he matures or not is a different matter. if he was at any other team, nobody would even know his name.

Barca are not going to pay a club €1m to take a €12m rated player off their hands for 2 years to give him experience. While Bojan is no world beater, he's a decent player and there'd be more than enough interest in him, if he was available on loan, for Barca to probably get paid for loaning him out.

Also, how often do you see clubs loan out 20 year olds for 2 years? If Bojan was so highly regarded at Barca that they're willing to pay to give him experience then he wouldn't be getting loaned out in the first place.

The truth of the matter is that this deal is either a crafty way of boosting Barca's figures in regards to FFP or it's been worded wrongly and Barca aren't obliged to offer Roma €13m in 2 years, they just have the option of doing so if they wish.

who needs Bojan? i cant think of any decent team which needs him.

Roma are falling apart, they have lost their star CB to a rival team and their best player is 34. Therefore Roma cant afford this 40 million for Bojan, no way in hell can they, especially since they are 6th in Serie A and lost their best CB to the league champions, its only going to be downhill for them this year.

Barca has probably done this to fund the fabregas deal, that's the only way i can see it working, then they are thinking buy Bojan back in 2 years for 13 million (they should have made 10 times that within 2 years) and then if he is good enough keep him, if not sell him.

this is a very good move for Barca, they can now afford Fabregas and get rid of a unproven player to gain experience with a cheap buy back clause, Roma need a striker and they could probably do with the 1 million extra in the buy back in 2 years time.

this is a good move for both teams.

I must admit, I've not watched him that much. If Chelsea do buy him, they'll have a lot of players. Surely some must be getting sold?

35 million for Modric seems a lot to me, do you all think he's worth it?

I think he is a great player but the fact is he doesnt really score many goals or have many direct assists for an attacking midfielder.

"Is he worth it?" is such a hard question given the huge oddities in the transfer market recently. If Henderson is £20m then Modric is £35m easily right now, but should the Henderson transfer become the benchmark for a midfielders value? Probably not.

I think he would be a very good signing for Chelsea and i think £35m is enough for Spurs to justify selling. Its top money though.

He runs the Spurs midfield, everything goes through him. I've read reports from scouts saying Modric is one of very few midfielders who could slot into the Barcelona first 11 and not weaken it.

He's very much like Xavi.

He cost spurs £16m, has 5 years on his contract, would slot into any first 11 without looking out of place, he's worth more than £35m to Tottenham.

He is on a "relatively" low wage for a player valued in the £35m+ bracket.

Do you pay £35m+ for a player who "wont look out of place" now?

He may be worth more than that to Spurs based on previous performances but how much is he worth to them once he has asked for a move and declared how unhappy he is? Good luck with getting £35m+ performances out of him next season.

Spurs have been great in their declaration of him staying but eventually you reach an impasse really. Theres not much point in keeping him if his mind is elsewhere, hard as that may be to swallow.

I don't like the endless 'he doesn't score enough' - he isn't a purely attacking midfielder - certainly not from what i've seen - he's more of a maintain posession and control the tempo kind of player that roams.

I agree, he is a fantastic player as a footballer but if you were to analyse what he does or how he would fit into a midfield he becomes quite hard to judge i think. Not in terms of being a player that is, but in terms of how you use this £35m (maybe more) player in an XI.

Shall we try this again and see if you completely miss the point for a 3rd time?

Barca don't simply have the option to buy Bojan back for €13m if they choose, they're obliged to offer Roma that. In other words, regardless of whether Bojan flops like a wet fish and Roma can't even give him away or whether he loses both his legs in a car crash, in 2 years time Barca must offer Roma €13m to buy him back.

How is being obliged to buy him back, rather than having the option to buy him back if it proves worthwhile to you, good for Barca?

Do we actually have concrete evidence what wage he is on?

Do you pay £35m+ for a player who "wont look out of place" now?

Not if there are cheaper alternatives, but if money is no barrier to super rich clubs and they want a player desperately, then sure. Fernando Torres £50m anyone?

Time will tell.

I think Levy made a mistake in saying we weren't prepared to sell, what he should have done is put an extortionate price tag on him as soon as a bid was received.

By the same token, hanging on to Modric isnt going to do spurs any good either.
35 million quid is a ******* **** load of money, its enough to buy several smaller football clubs.
It could quite easily buy 3 decent strikers, or god knows how many unknown rough diamonds that could change spurs future.
£35m would buy Spurs one striker of the kind of ability they want to aim for, and leave them a bit of pocket change after.

Three 10-12 million strikers would not nearly be good enough for them.
