whats the best cpu on a budget?

So, the performance gap is so great, the top end would match it:D

The performance gap is so great that the Core i3 IGP cannot not even compete and in multi-threaded applications like video encoding will still lose!! :D

Shame, that the motherboards with 4 RAM slots are so expensive!!:D

Still has enough SATAII ports (4) for optical drives and harrdrives:D

And the Koolpc usage seems to suggest the HD2000 IGP is plenty for what he intends to use it for, and the A8 3850 IGP is slower than even a GT430 which really isnt saying much:D

No warranty then?? :D

Depends on the age and make of the card, but there will usually be a few years left:D

Having used the HD2000 it is average. The HD3000 is a bit better but not that great. :D

Which may or may not be honoured in the UK. Still if you go that route you might as well look at one of the previous generation Core i5 or Core i7 processors too.

"You easily get 2x the frame rates of Intel's Core i3-2105 and can use that extra headroom to increase resolution, quality or sometimes both. The performance advantage is just one aspect of what Llano offers in this department. You do also get better overall game compatibility, DX11 and GPU compute support although the latter is still missing that killer app."

:D

Shame the Core i3 2100 has the HD2000!! :D

And thats why many people are happy to help with RMAs in the members market.:D

Tiny bit of gaming otherwise, photoshop and bog standard stuff

:D

So like I mentioned before get a Core i5 or Core i7 then??:D So I expect you always buy secondhand??:D

Like I said the HD2000 is rubbish having used one.

Anyway, you seem to like Bit-tech very much for reviews and they actually rate the A8-3850 higher(82%) when compared to the Core i3 2100(72%) which they reviewed after it.

This is their overall conclusion:
"
If you’re planning a budget build, or simply want an office or lounge PC that can still handle a little gaming when required then the A8-3850 is ideal, as it will be significantly cheaper than building an i3-2100 system with a discrete GPU. With more than enough CPU power to deliver a quality desktop experience, and the advantage of a dedicated GPU to provide genuine 3D performance, it’s a highly competitive package. "

So I expect you always buy secondhand??:D

Have done, look at my trust:D, bought a few 9800gt in my time:D even a GTX295.:D

The sellers are always to happy to help if a manufacturer only wants to deal with the original purchaser:D

But fortunately most only need a copy of the invoice or the card to be registered:D

So like I mentioned before get a Core i5 or Core i7 then??:D

Because theres more future proofing with socket1155:D Ivybridge?:D

So are you always going to recommend that people buy secondhand parts instead of new ones?? :D You seemed to have forgotten to mention that in post 32!!:D

Thats if Ivy Bridge will actually work in older chipsets :D Perhaps you need to look at the history of socket 775 to see this! :D

Still why not get secondhand socket 1155 parts??:D

Is it an official statement or a "leak" - just like all the other "leaks" with other CPUs and GPUS?? :D

Funnily enough the slides don't mention the H67,P67 or Z68.The slides mention that the Q65,Q67 and B65 chipset will not work with Ivy Bridge but the only noise has been about the Z68 being compatible.

At the bottom of each slide:
"All dates and plans are subject to change without notice"

This slide makes no mention of 6 series chipsets and is newer:

http://semiaccurate.com/2011/03/28/latest-intel-roadmap-confirms-pci-express-3-0-for-ivy-bridge/

Where is the official Intel statement especially concerning the compatibility for all the six series chipsets?? Until that is released in a statement it is all fud. Both Intel and AMD are guilty of this. Again lets go back to socket 775 and socket AM3.

If it comes in cheaper/same as, and faster than Llano:D then yes!!:D

i3 2100+P67+9800GT+ram = £206 :D

If it comes in cheaper/same as, and faster than A Core i3 2100:D then yes!!:D

:D

Guys, you are making my head spin!! I am confused enough, lol.

I am edging towards the Llano for the money. I may decide to game a lot, in which case i would then buy a sep graphics card.

So why bottleneck your system with a slower cpu? Just get the sandy bridge.

If you start a new spec me thread in general hardware then we can ensure you get the best bang for your buck.

I dont see the confusion... You want the best processor on a budget you've been spec'd the i3 2100, You say(if you get llano) You may get a separate graphics card if you decide to game a lot, why not give the i3 the same treatment.

Seems like a no brainer to me :)

I'd pick the Phenom II X4 over an i3 dual core CPU every time. For £85 the 955 Phenom II is a very good purchase. I'm not quite sure why you'd want a dual core CPU these days?
