Orange Monte Carlo

It has average battery life, you won't get this long out of it. It's got about the same as the desire (original) - a decent days worth - possibly less if you don't play much on it.

See that's where I dont think I could handle these cheaper phones. On my old Iphone with it being 4 years old I still managed a good 3 days with moderate usage. Nevermind i'll wait till it hits stores and see.

Large advertising boards showing the Orange Monte Carlo have shown up in my local Orange shop, no phones or prices on display though. So should be in stock very soon.

The guy that runs Modaco just tweeted to say his pre production skate has a 600mhz cpu

Honest to god this is a quote from the internal stuff I have at Orange:

The Monte Carlo from Orange sets a new benchmark in smartphone technology. Not only does it run Andoid 2.3, but it boasts a large 4.3" capacitive touchscreen and 800mHz processor, so great for browsing the web, using apps or viewing content. The Monte Carlo also supports DLNA & Dolby noise reduction technology. Take high quality images using the 5MP camera with flash and share them via bluetooth. The Monte Carlo also supports a range or Orange services and apps, such as HD Voice, Signal Boost, Orange Wednesdays & Your Orange.

This high rolling handset offers:

download apps from Android Market
4.3" finger-sensitive touchscreen
5MP camera
stay connected with 3G+, HD Voice & Signal Boost
Operating system - Android 2.3

Launch price - <i deleted it, sorry :( don't be mad>

Anticipated launch - <i deleted this too>

I went into Orange shop in Hull this lunchtime, he checked his systems and it said the phones would be on sale tomorrow Saturday 6th August pending software testing. Price was £149 + £10 topup.
He couldn't guarantee that the phones would be on sale tomorrow though.

question, if they try sell the phone for £150+10 top-up isnt there a big risk being put against other phones like the Samsung Galaxy Ace which also sell for pretty much the same price.

and supposed to be very good.......risky it seems.

I reckon the galaxy ace is much better at that price point and totally agree with the above. Better build quality, 800mhz cpu and most probably a better camera

That appears to have a lower resolution screen though (320x480) and it's £199[o2]-£210 online

£150 won't be too bad but if people are really this into smartphones they should sort themselves out a proper one :p

Comparison of galaxy ace and skate:

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3724&idPhone2=3784

Firstly the screen on the skate is much better.

Apparently the ace has only 384MB compared to the skate and with android now a days, you really need 512MB at the minimum, it is more important than the CPU at the minute IMO, as if you don't have enough RAM the mobile is very laggy, hardly any multi tasking and can slow down a fair bit in games and after a while of use.

I don't know how much internal storage the skate has, but the amount that the ace has it pretty terrible.

The skate comes with 2.3, I don't know if the ace has got 2.3 officially yet. I would also imagine that the developing community for the ace is very tiny and will be much larger for the skate just like it is with the SF community.

The only things, were the ace is better than the skate is:

- CPU
- Camera
- In theory it should have slightly better battery as well

Personally I would much rather have the better and bigger quality screen any day over the ace and most certainly would not pay that price for the ace when I could get a defy, desire (second hand or probably brand new) etc. and for an extra £20-30 pounds I could get an even better mobile probably.

The price of the skate is great and I reckon it is going to be very popular as well just like the SF was.

I am not going to bother with it though, waiting for the nexus 3.

Galaxy Ace is £150 in loads of places. 3 has it for £164.99 with £15 top up in stores, Argos has it for £150. Still think it's bound to be better built than a Skate/Monté Carlo too

If the build quality is anything like the san fran then it will suck. The amount of dust and fluff under my screen was ridiculous.

tbh thats a given with most mobiles and why you should allways have a protection cover, I phone or SF you kinda should get used to using them;)

One thing i most interested in is how laggy or slow the phone will be compared to the youtube videos of it being used in the EXPOs, hopefully they have made it a lot faster so it isnt that laggy.

other than that, how easy to unlock and how much...

You don't need a 'protection cover' at all. They are to defend against scratches and wouldn't really stop dust anyway?

If dust gets under your screen it means there is a fault with the construction, it shouldn't happen.

Well it certainly looks very quick and smooth in this latest video, especially the web browsing, just looks very snappy:

Imagine what it will be like when the modders/developers get their hands on it and port CM7 over

And the screen looks very nice.

Hmm, tempted to get this again now, will wait for user and expert reviews first though.

lol no, I've never had a 'protection cover' on my many smartphones and the only time I've had dust problems was with an iPhone 3 I replaced the screen on and it wasn't a fantastic fit.

As Robbo says, they wouldn't stop dust anyway.

Got these in at work today, I work at Orange by the way. I didn't get chance to have a play around on one but ill have a go tomorrow and get back to you all.

My old 2g iphone was in the exact same conditions and only had a back cover on it from asdas. Didn't have any dust ingress or screen scratching issues. My san fran was in a jelly skin, screen protected and sleeved and it still had dust and small fibres under the screeen. You get what you pay for with phone construction but honestly my old nokias do a better job and I was dissapointed with the san fran in this aspect.
