I want commander.

Commander would be an ok addition if there was an option to mute the commander, half the servers you went on all you heard was "enemy infantry spotted" over and over and over, literally with no pause it was just a constant drone.

lol "a great help"

nobody ever used it, Half the time the role was taken by some halfwit who either cocked about or had no clue what they were doing.

Take your rose tinted spectacles off.

I won't miss it.

More than a few players in our match clearly grew impatient with the jet and just started going full-on kamikaze in a self-inflicted blaze of glory,

:D oh yeah this is definately the sequel to BF2.

Well I used to play in rusty in places servers and they had good people do it.

I will miss the commander assets like arty, ammo drops etc etc... I assume all this has been dropped?

We've all had games with great commanders agreed.

But how many did you play WITHOUT one ? :p

Was there ever playable ships this large in BF2/prev BF games?

Wake Island should have an aircraft carrier as a base at least ;)

No. BF1942 and Codename Eagle were the only ones to have drivable ships.

Its a shame there cant be a clever stats system in place to determine whether a player can be a commander or not.

ie the game tracks what commands are issued, what support items are given... and it can relate that to events on the field.. something like if the commander spams a command all game, then that means he is likely to be annoying to others. OR maybe the commander dosent use their support options and ignores his team.... or even spams them into silly areas that are no help to the battle, maybe dropping ammo into the sea etc

Very hard to implement but something similar would be able to weed out idiots and stop them doing it, especially if there is a punishment... ie loss of rank for 24 hours, or banned from commander role for 48hours and scaling.

Hell yeah they do ;)

Top Gun is real life btw.

I watched the whole of the DVD commentary and special features and was amazed to find that the story behind how goose died was completely real.

I watched the film and thought "yeah right, like that would ever happen" only to find the filmcrew had asked the instructors at Top Gun to come up with a real life story they could use. And they gave them that one !

But the Top Gun point is an important one, the whole reason the school was set up, was to keep the US pilots trained in dog fighting.

Exactly, because following ww2 and korea, they became to dependent on missiles, hence in vietnam they were poorly equipped to handle close in dog fighting, hence the creation of fighter weapon school.
