** Summer Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

Yeah but Parker seems to be the loyal type where he would rather help them get back up than sit and wait till they did it by themselves, although 2012 is at the end of this season so maybe he will be wanting to improve his chances of getting into the squad.

What I'm saying is it is unlikely he'll have a choice. If a loan deal presents itself West Ham will likely accept it.

Yeah but the player can still reject the move. Just because a club accepts a bid/loan a player does not have to move. He can reject it if he wants too.

If West Ham turn around and say to him "we cant really afford your wages when we are down here, but we would like to keep you as a player for next year when we go back up" then Parker might go back out on loan.

All im saying is, just because a club accepts bids, players do not have to move. Like I said, time will tell though. They both might prove me wrong!

Still, the amount City are paying for someone in the final year of their contract must be a record.

Almost certainly but that's the way the transfer market is now. If you looked back at the start of this thread and people were talking about Ashley Young leaving Villa for ~£10m. In the end he's gone for ~£16m.

£25m today is the £10m of 5 years ago.
Baz, it all falls down in real life though. If it was completely normal to pay 8m more now to guarantee you'd get him....then why are only City willing to do it?

Bids are hardly rushing in from all over Europe, the only vague rumour is that apparently we made a bid a while ago. (I have no doubt we enquired, I'm not so sure about the 20m bid though)

Like with most ~£20m players, you're only going to get a couple of clubs that will bid for him. You're not going to sign a player for that sort of money on a whim. It will only be clubs that specifically want him that will bid and only clubs that desperately want him that will be willing to pay more than he's worth.

It was more than a vague rumour than you bid ~£20m for him and if Arsenal are refusing to lower their demands then what is best for City:
- Refuse to pay and hope they can pick him up for free in the summer when a lot more clubs will be in for him?
- Switch their attentions to Sneijder or Modric and pay an extra £10m?
- Or pay the extra £7-8m on top of what he's worth to make sure you get him?

I'm not saying it's right to pay the extra money to get him but it's not madness either.

On the basis that Nasri and Modric are fairly even in terms of ability (most would agree); if City sign Nasri for £25m and Chelsea sign Modric for £35m, who's got the better deal?

City will not have got a bad deal if they sign Nasri for £25m, they'd just not have got the great deal that they'd have hoped they could get given his contract situation.

Looks like Modric is staying according to SSN...Levy isnt going to sell him to Chelsea and dodgy 'Arry is asking Modric to get his head right lol.

DM should be happy right now that they've cashed in on Nasri, ya?

You must be nuts??:p....DM wont be happy until Wenger leaves Arsenal:p

Im happy that the little french mercenery has left....if he wants to make loads of money then fair enough but quite ironic that a yr ago he blasted City for their stupid transfers and wage bills. But equally he has more of a chance of winning trophies with them than us at the moment.

It could be argued that it's not crazy to other clubs too :p

Paying ~£8m more now will not only guarantee that you'd get the player but it could possibly save double that if you missed out on him.

edit: For instance, if Nasri had 3 years on his deal and Utd bid £25m for him it would be acceptable. Where's the advantage to Utd in refusing to pay £25m now that he's only got 1 year on his deal, if it means they have to turn their attentions to Modric (for example) who will cost them ~£10m more?

*the above is just an example to explain the reasoning before anybody starts screaming*

I have to say IF it was £10m extra for Modric, I would take him over Nasri every day of the week (small price to pay for a much better player currently) - plus while Modric seems to be interested in big money at Chelsea, its quite possibly still less than City are payiing Nasri....so potential for club to get x amount/week back (as it were)

DM should be happy right now

Does not compute.

Required elements for equation to be valid:

  • Wenger out
  • Most of the board out
  • Half of our starting eleven out
  • Any member of the squad earning more than £100 per week if they're not getting games out
  • Change to 4-4-2
  • Make Bendtner captain
  • Re-sign Eboue
  • Move back to Highbury

haha love it

Sink or Swim time for Arsenal, tough game tonight and a hard run in of games in the League.

I don't think Wenger will be sacked over this game.

I dont think they will sack him yet if that happens, I think they will see how he does up to Jan.

It is looking pretty grim at the moment for Arsenal.

But if collapse so easily by losing a carling cup final, the damage of failing to qualiy for the CL will be catastrophic and i cant see Arsenal picking up themselves from it and potentially carry on relagation form for a few months.

Wenger cant even motivate his side from losing a carling cup final, what more failing CL? A new manager however could motivate this side. it needs it even before this game

Or maybe getting knocked out of the CL this early will act as a wake up call for some of the players/staff. The lack of mid-week games could also work in our advantage in the PL as everyone that's a threat to us will be busy playing mid-week while we rest/train. It could also help with injuries and fatigue.

Wishful thinking.
