** Summer Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

Bellamy is better than 75% of the players you mentioned there, he should start if he went to pool.

Is he a better winger than Downing? Nope. Is he a better centre forward than Carroll? Nope. And he's simply not better than either Suarez or Kuyt (who's not certain to start on the right himself anyway).

He's a decent all round attacker who can do a job covering the front 4 positions but he's not better on an individual basis to the players above and the role they play in the side.

Bellamy's entire career has been very inconsistent; he's had seasons where he's been very good and then had seasons where he's done nothing. At 32 now, he's unlikely to play to the levels of 2(?) seasons ago (probably his best season of his career).

Why did he leave Liverpool originally?

The main reason was to part-fund the Torres transfer.

IIRC, the talk at the time we signed him was that he was only ever going to be a stop-gap signing. He had a £6m buyout clause in his Blackburn deal and was seen as a fallback option if we couldn't sign other targets, with the knowledge that we could at least get our money back in a years time (iirc, he went for ~£7-8m). In the end the club would have preferred to keep him but needed to raise money for the Torres/Babel deals and he was seen as expendable.

You have to love Wengers audacity if tomorrows papers are to be believed. He has offered £6m for Gary Cahill :D lol

Oh and Rosicky wants out. Be gone with you lets save 60k/week.

Several news sites seem pretty confident with the story.

Arsenal : but Cahill is in the last year of his contract, so theres no way he's worth 17mil.

Bolton : and Nasri went cheap due to only having one year left on his contract?

Arsenal : So everton, how much for Jagielka?

Its pathetic really, we had money before Cesc/Nasri went, we knew we needed a CB, apparently Wenger knew we needed a CB, it takes 2 months + to get to the point of offering 1/3rd what the other club wants does it? Surely if he had to make a ridiculous 6mil offer, he could have done so 2 months ago, then got him for 15mil 6 weeks ago?

No idea who we are going to play against Utd, no Song, no Pong, would he stick a fullback in there, without almost anyone being fit I guess the only one left is Traore, or a CB.... Djourou? Baines and Jag for 30mil together, signed by midday tomorrow, ready to play this weekend, that might help.

but IF reports are correct and Arsenal have only bid SIX Million - thats an insult too

Personally dont see why IF AYoung was worth £16m with one year left why Cahill isnt worth the same kind of money for a less "glamourous" position

Bellamy to Liverpool rumours have gathered more pace tonight. All the rags are reporting that Bellamy's close to agreeing a compensation package with City and he's very likely to join us on a free transfer, although Spurs are said to be interested too.

I said the same last night, but hopefully there will be some sort of announcement on Coates tomorrow. His father (and agent) is said to have met with Comolli today and he himself was flying into England today (well yesterday now), landing late tonight/early hours of Friday for his medical. Coates's fee is said to be around £7m - a lot lower than the reported £15m+ he was being touted about for earlier in the summer.

Coates im surprised wasn't announced yesterday too. Regarding Bellamy last i heard was his wages being a hold up but surely even if City pay him off he will still want high wages something i don't want us to be giving him and by high i mean over 80k a week.

Wenger did this with Chamakh though didn't he. Offered a derisive amount to Bordeaux when he only had a year left. They said no thanks we can get more elsewhere. He leaves on a free next summer.

Maybe Wenger thinks he can do the same again.

Wenger needs to change his transfer policy, with the likes of City paying obscene amounts on a regular basis there is next to no chance of getting value for money nowadays. For the sake of 5-6 million, it's pointless.

In his prime? Yeah, sure, you can have that.

Now? Nah.

He didn't tear up the championship like everyone was expecting last year. He was good, but not amazing. Taraabt was better, and he's not done much in the PL yet.

Bolton have rejected a bid from Arsenal for Cahill...they havent said how much exactly we offered him but suffice to say it was probably too little.

FFS Wenger just give Bolton what they want, as long as its nothing ridiculous and get the guy....

I'm not sure why people are surprised by Arsenal's bid for Cahill. All summer Bolton have been asking for silly money, with the knowledge that Liverpool, City, Arsenal and possibly even Spurs are in the market for a CB.

Now there's only a few days of the transfer window left and City have signed Savic (and seemingly not looking for another CB), we're close to signing Coates and reports linking Spurs with a bid for Cahill appear to have died down. Bolton can't afford to let Cahill leave on a free and it looks like Arsenal have got the path clear for themselves, if they want him.

If Arsenal are serious about signing him, and this bid wasn't just a speculative punt, then I'm sure Bolton will hope to get more than £6m out of them, but I can't see them getting anything like the ~£18m they've been asking for.

In his prime? Yeah, sure, you can have that.
Even in his prime, the only 1 of the 4 he'd get close to replacing would be Kuyt. He can do a job outwide but he's not a winger, so you wouldn't pick him ahead of Downing. Nor is he a centre forward that you'd pick ahead of Carroll. It would be a difficult job to make an argument to pick him ahead of Kuyt tbh; both played similar positions and Kuyt's regularly out scored him and I'd be surprised if he hadn't got more assists too.

Wenger, just bid £12m and we will get him.

Bolton Chairman Phil Gartside has retweeted this about our offer.

Well i personally think hes a complete idiot if he thinks he can get away with it a second time....pretty sure Bolton will offer Cahill a decent contract if hes in his last yr of his current contract.

Like i said above, just pay Bolton £16mill or whatever it is and be done with it, we have the freaking money so Wenger stop being such a tight arse with money...

While I agree that a £6,000,000 bid is insulting, I don't think Cahill is anywhere near £18,000,000 or whatever Bolton value him at. I reckon you're right and about £12,000,000 is a fair price for him. Even if that offer was insulting I think it's highly irresponsible of the chairman to retweet something like that, especially if he's hoping for Arsenal to do any business with him at all. We've been good to them over the past few years with the Wilshere loan and this is the type of comment the chairman comes out with?

Its the same story isnt it?? yr in yr out...english players get valued at way over their real valuation....City have made an absolute mockery of the transfer system so as someone said rightly above, that Wenger isnt going to get value for money anymore other than buying unknown french players who he can try and develop.

Not nice of the Bolton chairman to tweet silly comments like that, like you said we have helped them in the past with the loan of Wilshere to them...pretty disrespectful of the muppet.

EDIT: Also looks like another one of our transfer targets has basically told Arsenal to go do one..Per Mertesacker wants to see out his final yr of his contract at Werder Bremen.

Whilst I think the Bolton chairman is being absolutely moronic, it's stupid to say that Arsenal done Bolton a favor regarding Wilshire because he would have been sat on the bench anyway. Arsenal have benefited the most from Wilshire's loan.

Cahill isn't worth £16-18 million but for the sake of saving a couple of million, it isn't worth missing out on the player completely.

If Arsenal really want him then they will increase their bid. There's little sense in Arsenal opening with their maximum bid when they have Bolton over barrel though.
