***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Anyway to speed up the encoding? Mine seems to encode in realtime/slower, is this normal?

You have a similar spec machine to myself. Obviously encoding is done frame by frame and is entirely dependant on how busy the action is in the frame. I found it slightly faster than real time but not by much.

Am I right in thinking that this will allow you to access files only by dowloading them? or would it allow me to stream a film for example?

I use Abyss web server, small footprint and very easy to configure.

If it is a compatible filetype (eg .mp4) then it will open in the native video player and stream it. Any other file will download as it would from any other website.

It works quite well to avoid using a USB cable or cloud storage (which is doubly annoying as you are moving a file out from the internal lan to the cloud and back internal again)

getting to grips with full fingered typing on the keyboard now. Lovely and sensitive with the 10 patch in preware applied :D

Just got mine delivered, seems like a nice device :) bit bigger than I thought it would be! Any advances with android on it yet that anyone knows of?

if you click the WiFi app menu in the top left you can adjust stored profiles, or are you looking for something a bit more feature rich?

Thanks. Got an annoying problem. I can connect to my work network (enterprise) but the connection drops after a couple of minutes and every time I try and connect I need to enter my username/password. Stored profiles shows it there along with my home network which connects automatically perfectly.

What app are you guys using to view these videos?

Cheers.

I preferred Bhome to watch my movies. Quality was great. It streams them great from my NAS (Synology DS410). It's a bit of a PITA to have to convert them but I am only likely to do it with TV episodes and the odd movie that I might want to put on the TP when I go away. I put Toy Story 3 through Handbrake using the iPad profile and it looked awesome and played v. smooth on the TP streaming through Bhome.

Excited for a dual boot with Andorid :D

Hope it isnt too long.

Whilst WebOs is nice, it is a bit buggy and the web browser is too dodgy at the moment.

I'm really surprised more people don't seem to be using the kalemsoft media player which can handle avis without needing reencoding. Sounds much simpler than all this converting!
