Cruicial M4 0009 Firmware Update

New M4 arrived today for my new system,

Just finished the build and got Win 7 installed and ran CrystalDiskMark

Just updated mine. My stats aren't as good as most other people, which I presume is down to me using ISRT. Still an impressive boost over 0002.

Thats through the 4th sata port as I've just plugged it into my current set up to check if its working etc before installing windows. So the drive is empty too. Asus P5Q PRO running SATA 2 obviously. Still getting speed increases with the new firmware though!

Im curious why the 4KQD32 isnt higher though?? If the write is 100 when some are getting about 170, then why is the read so slow at 30 when the sata3 guys are getting 300...

Oh! Thats running in IDE mode, not ACHI or whatever. Will bench again when its my primary drive.

Pretty sure there is a newer ICH10R driver too... things to play with in new install :)

Decided to run a couple of benchmarks again since getting the new installation up and running properly on my new SSD and since then each Seq test in CrystalDiskMark that I run shows that the drive is now only pulling a 488MB/s read!

The only thing that springs to mind is that the speed reduction has only occured since adding my older HDD to use as a data drive (which is also connected to the other SATA3 port, as the HDD is SATA3 too), and after installing the latest Intel RST drivers.

Now, I've just decided to uninstall the Intel RST drivers and I am now back on the standard Windows AHCI drivers and ran the benchmark again, Seq test reveals that the read speed is now back up at 509MB/s. Does this mean that the Intel RST drivers are to blame for the speed reduction? Maybe other people may be experiencing the same problem?

Thanks all - Liam

thanks for sharing

I have an asus p5e3 deluxe and they are probably about the same speeds I will get

I guess we could still use this hard drive on a newer motherboard :)

Yeah, I didnt really want to upgrade for a while longer yet so went for an SSD as ive read that its the biggest single improvement you can make to a PC (even if its only sata2). Lets see if ivybridge can tempt me to upgrade :D But yeah, if i did upgrade the drive would come along for the ride.

This is a comparison with an empty WD Black 1tb drive. Again still in IDE mode and not 100% on what driver im running.

Have you set your first boot device to cd?

Yeah in the bios, still will not boot from cd.

Also tried f8 and will still not boot from cd, even when i select the option.

Going to try another cd.

I assume it makes no difference using a cd or dvd?

I am mastering it as well, which again i assume is the norm?
