Singapore Grand Prix 2011, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 14/19

Yes but that's a recent thing, he didn't have a good rep when he drove for Williams benetton or in his early bar days.

I don't think any of us were angels when we growing up - remember Button was only young then. And what rep - as far as I heard he just had a taste for partying. No big deal.

I just know Jenson is a nice guy, you get this kind of sense of that from his aurora or something - corny as it sounds. He just seems like a really friendly, down to Earth guy and he does have a great sense of humour as aforementioned.

I wouldn't have called my son Jenson if I'd have thought any different :)

/manloveout :D

Contracts, his attitude when he was at Benetton was also widely reported. That he became very big headed like he'd made it.

Well, people can change and clearly he has. As he has become a man, he has clearly realised that being a playboy isn't the right way to go about living life. He has also shown steady improvement while at McLaren (which amazes me, especially at his age).

The good thing with Button is that he requires minimal management and just gets on with the work given.

Button could be paired with virtually any driver and you know he will get along just fine. When pairing the likes of Alonso, Hamilton and probably Vettel - any team would have to be very careful.

Personally, if I were in Christian Horner's shoes, I wouldn't hire Hamilton. I would stick with the Vettel/Webber partnership as they are doing a great job together. I can't help feel that Hamilton at RBR will cause fireworks, similar to what saw in 2007 (with Alonso)...and how I love to see fireworks ;)

Ah so recent as in the first 3 years of his 10 year F1 career - interesting way to put it...

ps3ud0

Of course I'm not bashing him for it. I was using it as an example of how Hamilton could just as easily mature. Button wasn't always such a stand up individual with a damn nice bloke reputation.

Hehehe.

In fairness, I would also pick Button.
Vettel + Hamilton just sounds like a lot of unnecessarily hassle.

I think when Lewis has to fight for his No1 status his few flaws do come to the surface, saying that, you cannot deny what a great job he does with the car he is given. I know JB seems to have had a better season [everyone says about his overtakes etc] but, to be fair to Lewis,he is putting the car in the grid position it deserves and sometimes better. If Jenson nails qualifying next year, Lewis might struggle to maintain is alledged no1 at McLaren and move on.

Just my opinion.

Webber has signed a deal for next year. That would end up with a nice pay day for webber, plus Mclaren have the option on JB. I doubt he's going anywhere for next year.

No it deffo wont be next year. Cant see Webber carrying on much after 2012 though.

smr...that's the ultimate compliment you can pay another man.
I didn't realise you were such a huge fan of Button.

Thanks, yeah :) Little story behind it if you can be bothered to read it ...

I actually got into Formula 1 not too long ago I'm not afraid to admit :)

Incidentally, tt was actually Lewis that got me into it. The race being Silverstone at 2008. Before that race I didn't give a damn about Formula 1.

I was walking across the living room when it just happened to be on on the TV and I just looked over to it and saw Lewis driving in the rain, subsequently sat down, couldn't believe how he could keep that car on the track in those conditions and it mesmerized me; have been hooked ever since.

Since that race I've not missed one session of Practice 1 or 2, not missed one qualifying session or one race.

The only thing I may have missed a few times is FP3 but mostly due to being hungover on a Saturday morning :)

Went to Silverstone in 09 for the first time, then 10 and 11, at the end of the race in 09 I had more or less sided to Brawn and Jenson but remember after the race, walking past the merc stands and discussing with the missus which team to follow - Mclaren or Brawn... I chose Brawn, bought a Jenson T and cap and became a Jenson fan ever since :)

The irony of that, I suppose, being that I'm a McLaren fan now, but I'm more about the driver than the team. I have a friend who is just mad about Mclaren, regardless of the driver.

When JB retires, all my focus will be on Lewis but I'm not sure if I'll have the same kind of feeling (ie. if I have another son I'm not sure I'd name him Lewis - that might just be taking things a bit too far :p)

Oh and don't take offense if I argue with you about things pre-2008 - I'd done lots of reading :p

:o my bad meant F3

To be honest that was part of the problem. His first year results were never going to be stellar going from what was essentially a one make championship with 200bhp and reasonable downforce to something with 4 times as much power that will quite happily pull 4G in a fast corner. Getting bumped out of Williams after a year in favour of Montoya and being sent on loan to Benetton for 2000 with a dog of a car was never going to help.

The few F1 drivers who have graduated straight from F3 (usually very talented) traditionally went to a back of the grid team to earn their stripes for a couple of years (eg Senna, Hakkinen).

Either to be honest, they both have qualities that would improve whichever team they drove for. Pushed, i'd say JB though.

Same question, But you didn't have Vettel?

Would be madness to have two super fast attacking drivers in the same team.
