The "toy" for Christmas 2011

Yep. Why do you not celebrate Christmas?

Or are you just as miserable and bad tempered in real life as you are on the Forums?

I love Christmas.

I pointed out that he was a misanthrope in another thread, and he agreed that he was. Case closed, your honour.

I always think of stuff I want for Christmas/Birthday during the year... when it comes closer to the dates I totally forget what I wanted :(.

I think I'm going to get my father a professional tool chest which will set me back a few hundred, that's as far as I've got with my planning. Either that or take everyone on a surprise holiday to somewhere snowy.

I'm a misanthropic mess as well, but I generally enjoy Christmas.

Well, I enjoy getting stuff (new games or whatever from the wife), and having a week off work to gorge and get drunk.

Other than that, it's not particularly interesting for me. Can't afford to travel to see family as we're quite isolated from the rest of our family members on both sides and the cost/snow becomes prohibitive. Spending money on presents also costs too much, really. I never know what to buy anyone as, in all honesty, I haven't got a clue what they really enjoy so just feel like an entirely generic figure buying bath sets or whatever.

But whatever, it's worth it for the ability to be drunk 5 days in a row, eat nothing but junk and roast dinners, and clock up upwards of 30 hours on Killing Floor. :D

EDIT: Thought I'd mention that we don't technically "celebrate" Christmas, as we're not religious in any way.

My three old is getting:
Deluxe Optimus Prime leader Transformer (I am more excited for this TBH)

Good grief, nearly 20 years ago I had an Optimus Prime for Christmas!

I find it truly astonishing how much people spend on their children. I work with someone who has just spent what must have been £1k+ on their 2 year old's birthday presents....... she ended up playing with their boxes :D

Some of the more memorable presents were the aforementioned Mr Prime, a Rock Lord and an illuminated lightsabre. I would imagine £40 in todays money was all my parents did (and could) spend on presents.

My best present though was two huge boxes of lego a friend of the family gave my parents - that was my Christmas present...... it was 2nd hand and I couldn't have cared less (or even probably knew what that meant having been given THE best present in the world!!)

At that age if I had that kind of money it would be going into an account for them. Incredible how much some people will pay. I thought me and my brother got too much spent on us at £150-250 but that was nothing compared to some. Wasn't even like they were well off either.

That is quite a bit to be fair but I guess it's 'only' something like a gameboy and a couple of games or a console and a game.

Not being a parent (yet) but I guess it must be easy to get into the whole 'keeping up with the Jones' thing, but there is a limit! Several hundred on a child is just simple waste IMO and I would almost question whether there is guilt behind these gifts (i.e. not being there for child etc).

Some people are just fortunate enough to have lots of money and want to buy their kids the best of everything - fair enough, but not to the point of the child losing the understanding of the value of money.

My 6 year old is getting:

Lego Harbour
Giant Bakugan dragon that combines from lots of Bakugan
Various Ben 10 figures (with disc for his Omnitrix
A new Sonic Duvet set
Various other little presents

My three old is getting:
Deluxe Optimus Prime leader Transformer (I am more excited for this TBH)
Lego lorry with speed boat
Bakugan
Hot wheels
Transformers duvet set
and again various other little presents

I would never buy a child an iPad 2.

getting my kid a 8gb touch for chrimbo this year.

4.99 USD for FIFA12 or 35 QUID for the NDS version no brainer really....

I love Christmas.

Which Christmas, the traditional one or the western manufactured one?

Christmas is a vile time but also a nice time, the greed and wastefulness of it yet the caring and supportive to other people at a gloomy time of year.

Do you really believe you own rhetoric on this?

I feel sorry for you if you do? People are wasteful and greedy through the rest year and don’t need to use Christmas as an excuse.

As is, you don't put up a tree, give gifts to loved ones, eat and drink too much and generally have a nice time with your friends and family? or as in pray to the baby jesus?

Yep. Why do you not celebrate Christmas?

Because none of my family / relatives celebrate Christmas anymore, and I see no need to practice any religious or commercialized festivals. People can buy gifts / stuff whenever they want, they dont need a specified date every year such as the 25th December to do that for.

You must be a lonely sad freak :D

So everyone in the world that either choose not to, or dont have the privilege to celebrate Christmas are sad lonely freaks?

I feel sorry for you if you do? People are wasteful and greedy through the rest year and don’t need to use Christmas as an excuse.

But it is true that Christmas in its commercialized form is most likely the single most greedy and wasteful time of the year (Easter probably comes a very close second) with the amount of food, drink and packaging that goes to waste on those two days, and its also definitely the most greedy part of the year with people asking for and expecting to be showered with meaningless gifts.
