!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Laugh, this game ran perfectly on a 570 with older drivers....along came the patches and You now need later drivers !!

I still need a fix for Key "binding" anyone ?

Free mini-game included.

It's called fix the game yourself before you play.

Still, all that's got me is less graphical corruption. Bloody shower for releasing it like this.

Got to admit, initially I did think what all the fuss was about regarding the games technical problems, but even I’ve had one too many CTD and graphical glitches after my many hours of gameplay last night…

I’m also bemused by its graphical ingame settings. Doesn’t seem to matter what I select, unless its screen resolution, but no AA or 8 x AA etc and the fps still stay the same or fluctuate between -1 + 2 fps, its quite puzzling.. even more so there is next to no further options other then v sync and AA, that is it. quite sparse..!!

Granted I’m running the game on a Dell 1749 laptop at this time, which a 1GB 5650 GPU is going to be well over used, but even so… I’ve also noticed graphical glitches in the mini map, it can and does flicker, and I also get micro stutter when you have a fly by just before you enter a buggy race etc…found a happy medium in the end was in fact 1280 x 720 4 x AA high texture cache over HDMI to a 42” plasma.. This did stop the texture pop in, and provided a fairly smooth experience for a laptop – averages 35 fps which is acceptable for mobile gaming.

And, what is with the really, and I mean really low res textures? I’d read about this but didn’t pay much attention until I looked up close to a wall and the bricks and cement were all pixels and a right mess… Maybe Crysis 2 has really spoiled me, as I remember looking upclose to a brick wall in that game, and it looked amazingly real. Even more so with DX11 mode enabled – shame Crysis 2 DX11 mode killed the fps for me lol still looked damn nice, better then Rage – by a huge margin. Maybe my desktop would be better suited for this game, its got a higer spec GPU..

Other then this, enjoyable game… liking the buggy races and it is unquestionable ID gaming. Its quick fire, in your face action and the guns feel amazingly good and sound 100% spot on. Does seem to get dry when no action, so what is there is good, but can see this getting boring real quick. Just a shame about the graphical hiccups..

Lets see what happens in the near future, Tech 5 could be the next big thing with this megatexture etc stuff, or the next big flop.. !!

great graphics great game, co-op is fun goty for me , its only been out 1 week , i cannot undestand all the Rage troll's, what game are you all comparing rage to btw when you say its ***** ?

I don't understand it either, it seems haters just got to hate on something. I could understand all the negative comments if the game was anything like Black Ops or Brink on release. But its not, it got fixed fast. Also it seems that some people in this forum don't have a clue when it comes to appreciating artwork in games, if the game don't have graphics compared to Crysis or bf3 blah blah, its considered crap, and makes the game ****....

so is it ok to install the ATI rage driver over the exisiting 11.9 or should i do a clean install i.e uninstall driver, run driver sweeper, install new driver ?

I will agree, its got a vastly different look to most games I've played. It does look good, I'm not saying it looks rubbish, but the textures upclose are very poor no doubt..

anyhow, agreed. Its got a different look to it and i have said game is very enjoyable... But not without its faults.

Meanwhile do jump on stairs/ramps :D it has quake style ramp jumping :D good for dodging stuff to.

Quite enjoying the shrouded bunker bit atm tho it does as someone said above get a bit dry between the action.

I do not think it's a crap game at all. On the contrary for what it is, it's enjoyable. I just don't get the engine, the tech or the commendations being flung about about in general.

What does this product showcase that could not be achieved in any _other_ current engine? Leaving aside the debacle of a launch, if this product(game) is supposed to showcase something, I'd say bin and start again.

I'll echo what has been stated previously, id clearly have been developing in a silo for the past 5 years.

The whole point of the engine was to be scalable. They appear to have pulled that off. What exactly should they of been trying to achieve?

Scalable on what? Their lead platforms (PS3 xbox360) are not scalable.

OK, so the engine is future proofed for another platform in x years time, when again neither of those will be scalable.

Additional:
Scalable on PC, surely. No argument from me there. So they made a "automatic" scalable engine (which _currently_ prevents any customisation without using console commands)?

Theres a lot more to the scaliability than that we are talking just letting the artists go ape and the engine will scale it automatically to the target platform at fluid fps.

I think one of the biggest problems is the developers spent too much time making sure it ran well on consoles and didn't put enough focus into how it looks on the PC, so while it looks great when viewed from 2 metres away on your average TV, it looks decidedly ropey close up on the PC on a decent monitor. (Then theres the whole other issue of when you have this level of unique texturing canvas to cover its a massive amount of data to texture everything at the pixel densities that are common today in other titles).

Entirely agree.

I'm sure the engine is revolutionary, and I'm sure it fulfills "someone's" requirements. But this product does not appear to showcase any of it's capabilities and isn't that the point generally with a virgin release on a new engine? Or was the capability to scale and present textures differently?

Not sure if it is me being picky ... I have not edited any config files, just applied patch and running the hotfix drivers but ocassionally I sense a micro stutter.

Anyone got any ideas why? The signature is my setup.

Finished the game, took me 11 hours, most of it was repeating the same level since it auto saves only entry and exit out of a misson.

Crap, feels like instead of wasting another 6 years of developing they just tried to push on the market what they had right now which was not much.

Terrible...terrible game and the ending is severely disappointing in both story and gameplay.

Really is a mess of a game.

You know you can quick save at any point....

I seriously don't get how people are completing the game in such a short amount of time unless they are a) Using the bugged Steam times, b) sticking it on easy and sprinting through the game with blinkers on, c) missing a hell of a lot of content.

I'm near the end with 18 hours on the clock, but still with a load of side things to do.

Sadly I still can't play for long without feeling sick (though windowed mode has helped a bit on that front).

I've managed about 3 hours on and off and I'm not far at all :p
