!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Just done the first mission, it's not bad at all. Quite enjoying it.

I'm getting massive screen tearing with Vsync off, artifacts and texture popping. What are the tips to minimise this from occurring? Is there like, a master guide for RAGE that helps you fix this?

I'm running with the specs in my sig, 1920x1200 0xAA but all else set to HIGH. It's butter smooth fps wise but the anomalies are distracting. What ATI drivers are best for this game also?

What happened to your 570? :)

I'm about 5 hours in now, God it is getting repetitive! I was hoping it would improve but doesn't look like it, a pretty average game tbh.

I suppose it is quite enjoyable but everything just falls a bit short i think.

And what did you think of Doom 3?

I think the problem with Rage is that ID have spent too long in their own little bubble while the world has moved on.

The game was released unready and was broken. I thought it was just me when I first loaded up but it seems not. Even after patching it still doesn't work properly and even if you tolerate the problems the game underneath seems to be a bit samey.

There was some anticipation of this game but it seems again that marketing has got the better of at least me.

Shame.

I'm vexed that I seem to have bought a game which is infested with graphical bugs.

Never played any game which had this much visual corruption ALL THE TIME.

Difference between "g_fov 90" and none, both standing in exact same place.

g_fov 90 :

default :

Yeah, you'll definitely see more with that higher fov than the default 80. I've changed mine to 95. I use fov 105 to 110 in quakelive.

Is it possible to use a 360 controller for when moving around in your quad bike/buggy?

Yes it is. You have to enable gamepad in the options and you might want to turn rumble off, because when you're not using it for driving it still rumbles when you shoot and vibrates off the desk. And the gamepad prompts remain on screen, even when you use the keyboard.

Pretty sure it's got native pad support. :)

Thanks guys. :)

To be fair Carmack is software engineer and not a game developer.

I to am looking forward to other titles using this technology, because the visuals that can be achieved in id Tech 5 with very modest processing power is astounding.

If you compare Borderlands or Fallout 3 to Rage there is no comparison. Rage is far far better and considering it's new tech and Borderlands and Fallout 3 are running on game engines that have been around for long long time, and as such developers should be getting better at extracting more out of them for less or same processing power.

According to his Wiki he is both and also an engine programmer. In my opinion if you compare the game itself rather than the engine then I'd rather have Fallout 3. Borderlands was okay and Rage looks like a clone to me. I hate all of this 'static' artwork. We spend hundreds of pounds getting the latest rigs and we've now gone from almost photo realistic to hand drawn - surely a backwards step.

Why? Photo realistic or hand drawn it can still look extremely good. At the end of the day its a game, it doesn't have to look like real life when it can look just as good but be a little detached from reality for artistic purposes.

Texture popin sorts itself out fairly quickly. Its really noticable at first but quickly sorts itself out so you barely notice it.

great graphics great game, co-op is fun goty for me , its only been out 1 week , i cannot undestand all the Rage troll's, what game are you all comparing rage to btw when you say its ***** ?

stalker and stalker 2 was bugged to hell when it was released like most PC games, have patience and stop wineing

I think I saw this mentioned but I can't remember where now!!! I've got my config setup and it has been working great compared to how it was but I start getting some pretty bad stuttering at times with it stopping for 1-2 seconds every 20 seconds or so. I'm guessing this is due to my graphics card running out of ram? (5870 1GB) I was just wondering if anyone knew what settings I need to change to try and free up some ram or stop the stuttering? Yes I have all the latest beta drivers/patches/fixes etc :D
