!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Have lowest Anti-Aliasing as possible for higher fps as Anistrophic Filtering will not alter it at all really...only maybe by like 1-2fps max. :p

I've already got AA and AF off. Someone in this thread said they were getting a solid 60fps on a c2d and 5850, so I've no idea how. I wonder if that's with 1920 x 1080 as well.

I am getting 60fps with a 6950. 11.10 preview drivers.

I just got through the dead city bit. Really good level but i can't help getting distracted by some of the awful textures. Also had a ctd so have to do most of it again.

Overall i am enjoying it but i wouldn't call it a great game so far.

I am not getting much texture popping now, i still get it occasionally, but nowhere near s bad as it was, it was totally unplayable before.

!!!! SPOILERS !!!

The last couple of hours of the game in subway city and the ending seemed very rushed to me, I had no idea wtf the ending symbolized or what was happening :p Shotgun + Mutants = win though. Also no free roam? :(

ok this game runs perfectly now. vsync on, constant 60fps and no pop in.
on c2d and 5850. 11.10v2 drivers.

F:\Rage\Rage.exe +set com_allowConsole 1 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1

and in cfg

seta com_videoRam "1024"
seta m_smooth "0"

in ccc, triple buffer ON. AI set to quality.

Wow, now I'm getting between 43 and 60fps :D It fluctuates depending where I am or where I face, but it's good enough now. I reinstalled 11.10 preview 2 and all of a sudden, everything is working perfectly. I don't know if it's the drivers though. I think it's more the +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 I just added based on hedgey's post. When I tried with anything different from "-1" at the end of the jobs numthreads command, the game was freezing again, so at "-1" it's fine. Game also doesn't work with triple buffer on (for me anyway). Screen tears with vsync off, but vsync is now set to smart and that seems to work fine.

So far the game is silky smooth for me on my GTX580 and works very well with v-sync, graphics are different which is a good thing however the texture quality is just awful.

I can overlook this but damn, a bit disappointing.

Just bought this and am installing from the THREE DVDs, lol.

Steam reckons over an hour, is this right? Talk about an absolutely huge game.

Hedgey your a star, i have been messing around with configs, drivers, commands etc. None of them seemed to work, i have just tried this and it's now made the game playable, thank you for posting this info.

hmm the game is very short isn't it, I just started and already have all weapons, all upgrades and all cars. I am currently in the sub-way city.

Also I am not a big fan of how they reuse levels. First time you do it you enter through the main door exit back door then next level you enter same level backdoor and out the front door you exit.

Its annoying how the Sky is totally static, you look at it and it looks nice, till you realise nothing actuallly ever moves :(

Is there any possibility the textures will look better in patches to come ? or is it just gunna stay dire

Looking at 10..20..30?GB+ patch to improve textures and that's just not worth bothering for what is primarily a game that's worth maybe one or two play-throughs at most. The megatexture tech in Rage is complete fail, you get a 20GB game with absolutely the worst environmental textures I have seen since the N64 days ' yes they are that bad ' admitadly they look OK from a distance, still it's a fun game marred badly by it's awful environment textures and lack of environment interaction.

OT, but just out of interest, does anyone know why no other devs have bothered using the Path engine that Just Cause 2 uses? It's easily one of the best looking games out there and scales brilliantly. I could imagine it performing even better in a less open-world environment... doesn't make sense to me that a dev would develop a brand new engine only for it to look this bad.

Using the developer console disables steam achievements.

Just so people are aware.

What the hell do you mean you've only just started and have all guns and am in Subway town? It took me 10 hours to reach Subway Town. I'm pretty sure theres still a weapon to find, I've only just got the new car but it needs upgrades and I've still not been outside to properly explore the new area yet.

For some reason steam achievements have been notching up for me even tho I'm using dev console. Don't care about steam achievements tho anyhow.

Welcome to PathEngine, home of the most advanced pathfinding library commercially available.

It's used as part of the AI so they can....er.....path find.

Just Cause 2 uses the Avalanche Engine 2.0, an updated version of the engine used in Just Cause.

The Hunter uses the same game engine.
