*** The Elder Scrolls 5 - Skyrim Official Thread ***

The thing is, I should have spotted something like that without even looking for it! I must be getting old lol, thankfully I have not been asked to do a writeup for Skyrim, as if I would have missed something like that I would have lost a lot of credability :(

I'll be getting this game soon, but I'm a bit concerned at the texture issue. I understand they will be releasing a patch for it hopefully, but do you have to have an xbox live account to get access to it?

My xbox is hooked up to my router but I only ever play single player so don't have a subscription to live.

I'd be suprised if you do, but I'm panicking now as this sounds like such an awesome game and there's no way I'd be able to play it running from the disc as it'd be too damn loud.

You don't need to be a Gold member to get patches, but you do need your console to be connected to Xbox Live. As long as you're online, you'll get the patch :)

I started playing Skyrim at roughly 7pm last night with the intention of going straight to Winterhold so I could join the Mage's Guild. It took me about 4 hours to get there as everywhere I'd go I'd find something else to go off and do - a cave to explore, a bandit camp to destroy, a Dragon's lair to find a new shout, two dragons to kill. I think Skyrim is easily going to take me over 100 hours to finish simply because I never seem to get anything done because I'm too busy exploring :D

Thing is though mate, it's not as bad as we are all making out, I will reinstall it to HDD tonight as I can't stand the noise from the drive without it installed. I never really noticed it until I read about it. I just accepted that maybe some textures were low to allow for such a smooth frame rate.

You don't need a subscription to receive any patches, hopefully it won't be too long but I have a feeling it will be a large patch.

I have the exact same intentions and find that I do the same!
Unfortunately I don't have as much time as you do, but still end up not doing what I intend to. Sometimes I'll stumble onto another side quest that was in my inventory.
The only problem with this though... I get confused by all the different stories .. and who IS actually fighting in the war.

All I know is one of those dudes right in the beginning on the truck with me, I met up later where He's the Jarl and I can join them and their merry band. It seems like he and the dude from Winterhold (?) (where you got Lydia from) are peeved at eachother and wants to have it out.
Then there are the gray beards vs the stormcloaks and the battle-borns ? Mixed into all that Ive been doing some of the mage quests, Bard quests (am a bard now), Bandits lairs etc etc etc.

Does it sound like I've got the story completely wrong ^^ ?

Also, has anyone here done the Bard quests and got the "Wabbajack" staff? I got it and didn't use it at all for ages. For a giggle I equipped it and fired it off at a really tough mob that was protecting one of the dragon shouts ( the disarm shout). Wabbajack nearly one shotted that *******!

You say gold member, does that mean I have to be a member of some sort? That makes it sound like I have to be a bronze/silver member?!! I don't even know if anything other than gold exists though, I'm really not interested in the online side of things!

You should at least create a gamer profile and join the silver service.
Yuo don't need to be interested in online or pay anything for it, but it will enable games to automatically patch at the very least.

If you can get online with your console, and see all of the Xbox Live areas of the dashboard (such as the game marketplace) then your a silver member and will be fine, silver members can DL patches to titles no problems.

Ok, yea I've got a gamer profile and can see the xbox live stuff on the dash so I think I'll be ok.

Thanks everyone.

Now how long can I hold out before buying it....

When you first got your Xbox you will have to have created a gamer profile. This is a Silver profile. This lets you go online, download demos (a week after they've been released to Gold members usually), and get game patches. Gold membership is what people pay for every year, and lets them game online with friends, get demos early, and a few other things I can't think of right now. As long as your Xbox is connected to your router, you should download the game patch automatically when it's out.

The basic story is that the Stormcloaks and the Imperials are battling for control of the empire (though this isn't the main story, it's a side-mission of sorts I think). It seems each faction you meet, like the Battle-Borns or the Shatter-Shields, each have a side they're on. It's one reason why I'm holding off picking a side for now, as I don't want to cut myself off from certain areas if that's what will happen when I pick a side (which will be the Stormcloaks on this playthrough).

I went through my game guide again last night and reckon 200-300 hours is more realistic if you take your time and keep the difficulty slider on the middle to hard side of things.

If 2012 is the end of the world and the game takes 200 ish hours to do a good run through, I wouldn't wait a moment longer tbh.

Be nothing worse than getting it at Christmas time only to find the apocalypse on 1st Jan. You really need to get your conjuration skill up with the raise dead spells by then.

Sounds perfect, as it's my birthday a week tomorrow and I'm off the Thursday and Friday for it, so I still want to be playing this so I can essentially play it for 2 days straight :D

They should stick this on the back of the box :D

Oh yes, I was meaning to ask.
I have the summon familiar spell ( i think that's what it's called), but it doesn't do anything. Can anyone tell me how I do this?

Found a map that shows where everything is, should help me a bit considering I can't get hold of the strategy guide without taking out a second mortgage and can't buy the online version as I don't live in the US.

If its the one I'm thinking, just storm in with the entry level lightning spell (sparks?) and you drain all his mana really quickly, then you take 0 damage and he dies fast.

I didn't know lightning drained mana LOL! Epic, this could have been done so much quicker than waiting for him to run out of mana lol!
