E-On Ripp off!!!!!

£112 / month for gas and elec from eon, 3 bed semi with 2 kids, use between 10-12 units a day of electric.

had problems with e-on when they went to renew my contract with them, decided to put me onto a WORSE tariff than i was already on.

called them up and asked why they'd do that and it appeared there script didn't have a decent answer for them.

Sure you haven't got the immersion heater running 24/7 or something like that?

I'm with E-on and they debit me £55 a month, i live in a two bedroom flat which is so well insulated i hardly ever have the heating on, I’m not really a light electricity user during the evenings either so i must be doing something right.

I live in a three bedroom detached and only pay £99 a month for dual fuel.
Your maintenance charge should cover the outside lighting so should not be included on your electricity bill.
Get the meter checked or switch like I did when Npower decided to up my bill substantially.

Check your tariff....

I was with British gas and after 12 months they stick you on a standard tariff. Switched to Eon now a lot cheaper £150 for both.

British Gas wanted £110 for gas and £125 for electric a month!!! 3 bed house

£120 a month for a 4/5 bedroom house with 2 adults and 2 kids with Eon for electric and gas.

My electric is about £70 a month and pretty static at that, gas peaks at about £100 a month during the winter and about £20 a month useage during the summer.

Advice to the OP - get a copy of the latest bill - that will show wether you have estimated readings/actual readings also will show the amount of units consumed and more importantly what tariff your on.

Do you have a standard gas/electric meter ?

I'm lucky I live in a reasonably 'green' house. Don't have to worry about how much I'm consuming as the place stays warm with the amount of insulation in it.

It's around 45 pcm for combined gas and electric. Two bed end terrace.

EDF
1 bed flat
2 people
3kw boiler on 4 hours a day
42" plasma on 5 hours a day
Laptop
200w-450w rig on 5 hours a day
Other general stuff like fridge and phone chargers

Heating on 5 hours a day over winter (say 4 months)

£100 a month average over the year.

There are no scripts my friend.

I work for said company in question and when i get home, if the OP wants i'll happily have a chat with him to try and figure out what the problem is.

8000 units a year isnt high anyway its only 21 units per day, domestic single rate meters are expected and readings automatically validate upto 45upd eg 16425 units per year

I have literally just come across the same issues. Moved into a new rented house (2 bedroom) and the landlord had the account for Eon already set up to transfer over to us. But when we looked at the prices per unit, they were REALLY higher, especially for electricity. They were wanting 23.4p per unit whereas somebody like Southern Electric wanted 15.9p or something like that. Gas prices were competitive, but gas prices are low anyway ~8p per unit.

I switched from Eon immediately as my electricity bill would have been £20 for little over two weeks worth of occupancy and the heating had hardly been on either.

You sure the cheaper supplier didn't have a daily standing charge?

I pay 10p per unit, but have a 25p daily charge even if no power is used.

We're with E-On and have never had any problems with them price-wise. We have a 2-bed semi and between the two of us our dual-fuel bill is £72 per month.

I know you said they came out and did a meter reading but you can do it yourself online.

We want to make sure we're only charged for what we use so my OH puts our meter reading onto their website once a month so that they're always fully up to date on what we're using.

Just had a change to our direct debit, was 173 a month before I worked it out.. was closer to being 130 so I changed it, new readings say its now 183 a month now.

122elec
98gas

Seems extreme, I believe the elec though but we rarely use the gas at all.. its on timed to, I've got a feeling the boiler is at fault gunna have to start physically turning it on and off.

As previously stated i work for the company and off the top of my head i can think of a dozen things that could be the cause, but i need a few questions answering first.

1: is it a 2 rate or 1 rate meter
2: old dial or digital display meter?
3:is the meter located in the flat or a communual area?
4:if its in a communual area who reads the meter a meter reader or you and your mum?

i was paying e-on £238 a month and when i left they hit me with a £900 bill based on estimates

i didnt pay it

Should have provided readings then... cant really blame them for estimating if your not providing readings

Long and short of it is if people didn't complain so much and jump on the Daily Fail bandwagon and actually did a few simple things you would get bills that are more accurate and you could reduce your bills.

People are too content with complaining and doing nothing about it.

Ultimately though the problem is the regulation within the industry and the process guidelines each energy companies have to work by. The process' /regulations are 15 years out of date... FACT

If you change supplier there are literally DOZENS of things that can go wrong in the process and when it goes wrong.... i can 99.99% reliably say almost none of the suppliers ACTIVELY chase a resolution...except EON. Thats not just cos i work for them, i can point you at over 200 people who will Agree 100% with me.

Industries a mess
