E-On Ripp off!!!!!

You need to change suppliers.

No he doesn't - we are with E.on for duel fuel and for a family of 5 in a 5 bed house we only use £140.

His bill is wrong - either that or he's heating his house with 3kw bar heaters.

Having just bought my first house 3/4 bed semi and been in just over 2 and a half weeks, based on my current usage:

Plasma TV, Sky+HD box, Amp, Sub, all left on standby, American fridge freezer, washing machine probably will be put on once or twice a week, LED bulbs, 1 laptop, I turn lights out when not in use etc. I'm on to use around 3,700kwh of electric, if we assume my usage continues at the current rate though I did use a lot of power tools over the last two weeks.

Should work out at around £40pm

My gas, heating & water, as I have not had the manual until today, has been coming on for 2 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the evening which is probably a bit too much considering I'm only awake here for 30 minutes in the morning and 5/6 hours in the evening. Using just over 47kwh a day or 4.1m3 will come out around £55/60 a month for gas.

So that's roughly £40 for electric and £60 for gas, though my estimates are a little high for usage.

I dont pay by dd why have money sitting in their accounts making them ?

imagine if 100,000,000 customers are just £10 in credit that 10,000,000 of interest each day they make! Its the only reason that want you to pay by DD.

I stick £200 a month into a separate account and each bill that comes through the post I login into bank and pay pronto. In between bills I make a few quid interest not them.

I dont pay by dd why have money sitting in their accounts making them ?

Because you get a substantial discount for paying by DD? Feel free to keep throwing money away though by being on a non direct debit tariff as you're subsidising the cheap tariffs for people who know what they're doing :D

Yeah it makes no sense mum is goin to deal wit it tommorow she cant get through to them right now.

The worst thing is in the mail it says.

Its okay you dont have to worry we will debit the amount from your account automaticly....

How can people justifiy these kind of liviving costs for me and my mum who are barely in the house barely use any electricity busy bodies we are.

If it costs this much for us which CANT BE RIGHT then how can any of you guys with 2 or 3 computers and tvs and all sorts afford to live in a house.

E-on are prats.

Rather than ranting here, why not read the meter and give them a reading to charge you for what you have used.

Roffle.

I would imagine you would make more from a DD discount than you will the interest on the £200 you keep in the bank.

I'm wondering for my situation if my gas is so high.. 98 a month and its not even been that cold so the heatings not really been on!

1) The shower drips, sometimes it can drip quite rapidly requiring fiddling of the knobs (lolol) but the water is never warm so I'm thinking thats not the problem
2) The meter is faulty
3) The boiler is always idling at a low gas usage

We have a leccy oven/hob.. the only thing that uses the gas is the water/central heating.

Really crappy old boiler now, D rating.. Alpha CB24 I believe, I really want a digital timer with a room thermostat but a new boiler is expensive :(

Did have an instance where I was over estimated by stupid amounts and I'm not quite sure if thats been rectified yet but the bill for the last month came through yesterday/today and it says I used £98 of gas.. no mention of arrears or anything though so I'm assuming thats taken for what I've allegedly used.

I'm also thinking that I could tweak my timers a little better.. maybe it'd be better to have it on for longer at a time, rather than on and off more often in a day but I'm not sure.

Any ideas HybridX?

Unfortunately Gas isnt my thing im pure 100% Electric and thats where my knowledge sits im afraid.

Boiler replacement wouldn't hurt as it would save some money about 60-80 a year by replacing a D rating with an A rating but as you said the cost is high.

I would suggest making a note of your Gas readings when you get up and when you go to bed for a few nights to find out what your daily consumption is and importantly when its being used.
By idling do you mean just the pilot light or on a low full bar setting?
Also how long do you have your central heating on?

Could also be a faulty meter, see if there's a installation label/tag there normally is and it should list when it was put in.

All meters gas or electric have a rating upto 100 for their accuracy, lowest ive ever seen was 5 but that was a electric meter installed in 1975.

I could always ask around at work for you as a general curiosity to see what people think

Yeah if you would that'd be great.

The heating is all over at the moment, as we have a baby its set to come on for an hour in the night to take the chill off but I'll list it.

1230-0130
0500-0700
1100-1300
1700-2000

I think thats about right.. without pulling the stuff out the way. Same with the meter, will get at it tomorrow :)

Thats quite some time for the heating to be on really, especially with a highly uneconomical boiler.

Its either that or changing the baby a million times a day into sleep suits or letting him freeze ;)

I hear you chap, and your probably getting "woman grief over this" but also consider this

People used to survive without central heating at all not so long ago ;)

You may be better getting a small thermostat controlled heater and placing it in the babies/your room (wherever said tot currently is). One of the oil filled rads would be perfect. You dont need it to be hot, just not cold, you may be surprised that it doesnt come on a lot at all as its not really getting cold, just cool.
IIRC overheating was deemed way more dangerous for infants especially very small ones than being slightly cool.

You will use a lot of gas heating the house as you are for that hour at night. It will literally go all out for an hour using quite a bit of fuel, if its not then you didnt really need it on anyway.

Aye I got an oil one for when the heating died a while ago actually though the timer/settings on it just didnt work how I wanted.

We keep the room around 18, think I have the radiator set just right but have to change it every now and then though! Would just be easier with a thermostat in each room lol

"People used to survive without central heating at all not so long ago" - yeah saying things like that doesnt work anymore, I dunno if you tried lately but they always have an answer :(

I just changed mine from

0700-0830
1700-2230

to:

0600-0700
1630-20:30

As I'm not at home outside of those times it should suit me fine. I might keep it on for longer in the evenings.

Can anybody comment on how the thermostat on the boiler itself, radiators and the thermostat for the temperature for the house all effect each other.

I assume the thermostat on the boiler is determining how hot it will make the water, thermostat on the radiators to control how hot each gets and the thermostat for the house to control the overall temperature of the house?
