Is it like Sim City 3000?

I haven't played the latest instalment but you have to appreciate Anno as its own game.

It has elements known from games like The Settlers, Port Royal, Tropico, Sim City and probably a few others.

It could be described as an economic simulator and a city builder so yes, in that aspect it's similar to Sim City games.

Sim City 3000 came out in 1999 and I haven't played any game like that since. I'd quite like to play something similar again, so I might give this a go.

yhack you really must try either Anno 2070 or 1404 if you like city builders. The Anno series are, to my mind, simply unparalelled in the genre. Polished, beautiful, easy to play, deep, complex without being baffling, etc. It's just brilliant.

I'll borrow 1404 from my friend in fancy dress drinking rum and see what it's like.

Is this worth getting?

What were those voting things on the bottom left hand side of the min menu? They were greyed out in the demo.

Senate and World Votes.

Both of which affect things in the game, if if you vote for Eco or Tycoon etc it'll have affects on things in game.

Is there a tutorial when you first load it up? Not exactly sure what i am supposed to do, sort of throws you in the deep end abit.

The campaign holds your hand until you get your feet a bit wet, but after that the idea is you're supposed to figure it out. At its core, all you need to know is how to build stuff, how to produce materials and consumables and how to supply your populace. Everything after that is just more expanded on this.
