If I was Fergie I would cash in now, no player is bigger than the club, Rooney is getting a little to big for his boots

I like how he demanded the club invest money/players and hinted at leaving and then got a massive pay rise then goes behind the Managers back to have a curry a few weeks ago, what a stand up guy.

How fickle are footballers.

Sun have some story on Fergie asking Scholes to come back. Honestly not a long term option and yet again backs up the theory Fergie simply can't see that Carrick/Anderson/Fletcher/Park/Giggs aren't good enough, but it couldn't hurt Utd right now either.

As for Rooney, utd couldn't do better than get rid of him, firstly they have an idiot on 250k a week and no one else near that level of wage, but every other star will want to be close to that wage now. Get rid of Rooney and get rid of that wage problem of other people wanting the same.

Secondly, he's not worth close to 250k a week, you could have 5 pretty damn good players on the same wages, or 2-3 very very good players. Thirdly, as someone said you can't build a team around him. Build a team around Gerrard, Lampard, Fabregas, Xavi, sure, Rooney seems to be desperate to be that midfield general who the team revolves around, he creates all the chances and scores quite a few...... he just isn't that player. Utd would simply be a better team with instead of Rooney, a top quality creative central midfielder and a top quality out and out striker.

Or Fergie needs to smack him in the face and play him in one role, for his entire career, without changing it every couple of months. However you're beyond that now, 250k a week. You're not going to offer him more money, meaning at this stage its likely he'll leave at the end of his contract anyway when some stupid team offers to beat his salary and Utd refuse to top it again. So he likely won't ever be worth more than he is over the next year or so.

hmmm the US or russia, quick cash in, earn in 2 yrs what it would take him 5 to earn over here and BANG he's down the local with ricky hatton by 2015 and weighing 16 stone

To be fair, I doubt that, he's on 250k, isn't Eto'o basically the best paid player in the world and he's on 350k or so, Rooney though won't go to Russia, MLS won't pay that kind of wage. Beckham got a huge wage but was a brand that Rooney will never be. How many ad campaigns do they put Beckhams face on, now many do they use Rooney's for. Beckham is a pretty boy that was worth a lot in the US market, Rooney, not so much.

Utd made entirely the wrong move last year by giving in, a lot more teams would be interested if they only had to beat what, 130-150k a week, now to beat 250k a week, limits who might be interested dramatically.

Rooney on about the same as Messi, Ronaldo, its laughable.

Question why would Arry announce to the world that Ba has a release clause if they where trying to sign him? Not saying he's not got one but surely you would keep that hush hush to avoid other teams trying.

Second time this season he trying to unsettle Newcastle players. Krul/Tiote last month.

Bit peeved off at fatchops atm lol

Why is it laughable that he is on big money? Rooney is the most talented, highest performing englishman and is the face of English football. there's a reason its Rooney on the covers of fifa, on tv adverts.

If you get tickets to a utd game and hear that Rooney won't be playing you'd be most disappointed over any other player in our team.

This however is just another testament to how overrated utds ability to tame crazy players and that we could have saved Gazza. In the end they just fall out of favor and get sold on.

Absolute nonsense as usual DM. Beckham might sell aftershave and crap like that but Rooney has been the face of Nike, Coke and the FIFA games for ages now (including the American cover), as well as being the lead figure in any United related ads. He's easily the most marketable England player around at the moment.

He might be on 250k a week but without him United are a far less attractive commercial proposition and it's safe to say a huge part of that 250k is recouped through sponsorship.

totally agree - its also quite possible that the difficulty the club has in attracting REALLY top players would only be made worse by Rooney leaving (without any other players also trying to force their way out in Rooney's wake as well)

What? Beckham is / was a much bigger brand than Rooney will ever be. Very good looking, seemingly nice chap with a popstar girlfriend.

Beckham was vastly more marketable than Rooney:
-Better looking
-Easier to understand (which is saying something)
-Has starred in films
-Fewer lurid tabloid rumours
-Played in more countries and for more big clubs (i.e. Real Madrid)
-England captain
-Doesn't swear in public as much
-Bigger profile in terms of doing events outside of football

Your missing the point, you can be paid £30 to wear a Nike shirt, of £50million a year...... the fact that he has his face on anything has NO relation to what he is paid to do so.

Beckham is a huge brand, Rooney is just a big player, in England and they'll try and cash in on that, that is generally how the world works. Do you think there is 10 million asian women who would line up to get sign copies of Rooney's latest autobiography, who will buy his perfume, and loads of other crap? No.

He's easily the most marketable english player, because English fans have randomly decided he's the best England player, nothing more or less, that doesn't mean his image rights will be worth the same in the states as here, nor here compared to Beckham in his prime.

I mean, Heskey has been involved in half the things Rooney has, and would have been when he was an England starter before Rooney was even involved, do you think that means he's worth as much to a club as Rooney? Most players in the premier league to some degree are involved in advertising.

He is both no where near the most talented or highest performing English footballer, at all. If Rooney stayed at Everton, or anywhere but Utd/Liverpool and maybe Chelsea/Arsenal, no one would consider him the best striker anywhere. The public are stupid, and that does increase his commercial value, but as before, being on the cover of Fifa doesn't mean he is worth more than another player commercially.

As for if I went to a Utd game and he wasn't playing, I'd actually be hopeful they might play someone with huge talent rather than someone who can run around and kick people a lot. Rooney for years has been boring to watch. Back when he was bullying teams, running through defences and a real powerhouse he was great to watch, now he constantly drops deep and tries to pass....... meh.
