The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

ok added the high res pack to my downloads but steam is to busy for me it says.
i cant launch the game and play it now :rolleyes:

how do i remove the file (hasnt even started downloading yet) ?

Hmmm, I wouldn't even bother downloading this high res pack. I think the 2k texture pack is a lot better.

Looks like they have made the wood on the bridge to Dragonsreach high res but left the bolts low res. looks slightly odd..

I took think the 2K texpack is better. With the official one I have noticed Whiterun wood textures to be more detailed and of a higher texture...in places, otherwise I notice low res wood textures. Ground textures look more grittier than normal too.

I must admit, I cant see much of a difference at the moment. Only given it 5mins but nothing really stands out as being better. Will play a little longer and see.

There is a small difference when you compare two screenshots, but nothing that noticeable. The 2K textures are definitely better, but my graphics card can't quite cope with them, so I'm happy with these.

After a look on various forums I think the general consensus is that this high res pack covers more files than the 2k mod, but the 2k mod is better quality.

Hopefully there is a way of using both, so that you get the better quality 2k textures and then the ones the 2k pack doesn't cover are covered by the high res pack.

From guizihocrs on Nexus:

You can also use Skyrim HD with the official HD pack covering the points this one doesn't.

To do it deactivate both HighResTexturePack01.esp + HighResTexturePack02.esp and modify your skyrim.ini like this:

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

Think I'll just delete the official pack and go back to 2k tbh. I've got enough power to run it, and the future updates on 2K will eventually cover everything anyway.

With the exception of Delvin in the thieves guild, you gotta love the terrible british accents the americans do in the game. Really sounds like dick van dyke in mary poppins. :D

Anyone would think that loads of people have been waiting weeks for this moment...

I see that the Bethesda idea of just slightly updating the Kit for each game continues: there are settings for VATS in there, left over from Fallout3. Just as the F3 GECK had magic settings hidden away in it.

I feel like a virgin again ;):p
I have no mods, anything extra installed, am i missing out?

I am afraid that if i install a high res mod, i will get a performance hit.
I am on a Q6600 @ 3.4, 4gb ram and a HD 5850 stock. and @ 1900 x 1080.

I dont know what fps i get, but it runs very smooth

Is it worth it in my case to use a mod?

LOL i tried twice to install the High Resolution Texture Pack and then realised that i haven't even bought the game :o lucky its on special today :D
