LOL moment @ Zebra crossing in Lakeside

Next time be careful to violently ejaculate on the windshield to ensure that apppropriate thanks are proffered to said female driver.
 
Dunno about you guys but I can't hear people speaking when they cross the road from inside my car. That is of course not assuming when people say "They say thanks" they mean they hand gesture. :p

OVe here, a lot of people will let you cross even if there isn't a crossing, the problem is though is that you often can't see inside the car because the angle of the windscreen/light is just reflecting the surrounding. So there you are, is the car slowing down for me or the T junction? Awkward stare... oh now I can see them using their hand on the streering wheel doing some jedi "you can cross" mind trick with their finger. Because I'm supposed to have eagle eyes and see through reflections.

Why would you say thank you for someone obeying the law? they are obliged to stop they are not doing you a favour.
 
I always acknowledge someone if they've stopped to let me cross, zebra crossing or not. Same way I always thank someone when (although part of the highway code) has to wait behind a parked car as I have right of way. It's just polite.
 
This is the problem with today's society. There is no common courtesy in a lot of people. No you don't have to thank drivers for slowing down and letting you cross, but it's polite to give a quick thumbs up or whatever. At the end of the day, it is an inconvenience to slow down and by someone thanking you for it, it makes it more bearable.

Now if she was speeding, then i don't think i would have said thank you either.

It's exactly the same as those traffic calming islands that they put around housing estates where one driver has to give way to another on a straight road. It's common courtesy to give the person waiting at the give way a quick hand palm.

I say my please and my thank you, I hold doors open for people, I give up my seat, but i do not thank people for obeying the law and not killing me today. Has nothing to do with politeness.

When you're in a shop at the till, do you just take the change and go without saying thank you?. The person on the till is obeying a law by giving you the correct change. Same difference.

It has everything do to with politeness. You're talking absolute nonsense and you're just uptight and ignorant.
 
A debate about thanking at a pedestrian crossing. I'm on the edge of my seat :)

Oh and I'm a thanker, for what its worth.

Completely different scenario that is. I have directly engaged in a mutual interaction with the till assistant - they get their money, I get my product or service. The 'thank you' is an acknowledgment of a successful business transaction and good customer service, not 'giving the correct change'.

That is polite etiquette.

To make the analogy relevant, would be like saying 'thank you' for 'not removing the change tray from the till and bashing me over the head repeatedly with it.'. The till operator has a legal responsibility to not viciously assault you with their till. Do you thank them for that?

What constitutes moving on to a crossing? The physical act of stepping off the pavement on to the zebra lines or is standing on the pavement where the lines run up to sufficient to be 'on the crossing'. Genuine question, as I see plenty of people not stop when people are waiting on the pavement and I'm never sure where the crossing starts and finishes
