Tabletop Warhammer?

Didn't know this thread existed! (don't venture into GD much)

Used to play 40k when I was younger but gave it up due to money issues about a decade ago.

I'm hoping to get back into it now though, working so have some money. My aim is to pick some of the best figures and paint them to a high standard, hopefully do some conversions and stuff as well. I picked up the painter starter set last week to get myself back into it :)

Found one of my old miniatures that I entered into Golden Daemon when I was younger, it's suffered a bit from living in a drawer (it's held together by blutack!) but I'm still quite proud of it! It was originally going to be a duel piece with a hellion facing off against the exarch but I never got round to doing the second figure.

When was it released Drooling...gimp. :p

This link has your answer, just not very specific.

There is a lot of Warhammer board games. :o

Is it Warhammer: Invasion? Released 2009.

Doesnt ring a bell. The Playmats or sheets were a dark red colour with a war ravaged landscape in the back ground iirc. Each card had a name and a point value and you, in turn either picked on or rolled to pick on and place it on your sheet and once you have a big enough army you can attack your opponents. It was not 40k based but rather old world Warhammer.

Chaos rings a bell in the name after thinking about today. Not 100% sure though.

Edit: Found it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_Marauders

Finally relented & started my necron army today. Got a Battleforce (20 warriors, 5 immortals, 5 scarab swarms & a Ghost arc), command barge & the army book. Also picked up the vampire counts book, so I'm up to date with them.

Never played as necrons before, so quite looking forward to it

Had a crazy idea.

I really hate the Eldar Warwalker, but there rules are not too bad. So, I was thinking I could use the front (cockpit) from the WW and put it onto a Dreadknight. I'd cover up all the lettering on it with green stuff and use WW weapons on the arms. Do you reckon this could work?

I've heard and seen crazier stuff, that's for certain :) (including a Tau Titan made up of bits of Hammerheads, Piranha's and the like)

I'm hoping I'll be able to get back to doing some models in the next week or so, I've got about 60 Clanrats either assembled or almost ready for final assembly and really want to get on with them.

Gah...got loads to get done by 6th April. Going Warhammer World with the store, no idea what to expect, but got nearly 700 points of Eldar to get painted....

Ah, that's a fair lot.

Although about an evening's work for one of guys I play with (who manages to get great results in next to no time).

My younger brother has nearly finished setting up his computer/model room and has set up some of the billy's so the top half is display for his models, I'd forgotten how good he got the likes of the forgeworld greater daemon of nurgle.

New Empire go up for pre-order today. i have to say, the Demigryph's look astonishingly amazing! The witch-hunter looks ace too, might have to invest...

I must avoid GW site....
The new empire stuff looks great, but I will resist it....

The new paints look pretty amazing from what I've seen, the new base white goes over black really well, and smoothly in a single coat - if they have a yellow that applies the same it will be a massive time saver.
I think they've also listened to the complaints about the rubbish pot design, as the new posts look like the old ones, but have been redesigned so they have a taller lip to help prevent drips and make them more airtight, and the new tints iirc have a rubbery lid.

Yes, my best mate is manager of a store. Those new paints are awesome, I'm loving the drybrush 'paint' as its like gunge, nice and thick and.....dry.....

I am going to see whether he can get a set out for me to take home, I got his special model for gamesday and Christmas, so why no paints :D

Hard choice now...buy some Empire gubbins or get my tattoo I've wanted for about 6 months....

Another thing, looking at the GW site, it looks like they have put the prices up again.

23 quid for a Tactical Squad. Unreal. :(

I was shocked by seeing that the army books have increased in price by 150% since I last bought one! Their revenue clearly shows a significant loss of sales year on year when price increases are taken into account and it's not suprising given how expensive their models are now. Price elasticity is high for such products. Such a shame that warhammer has turned from a fun game into a model collection, where ridiculous new expensive units are added to armies with no regard for gameplay balance in order to sell models.

I'm in one of the old white dwarf mags from the 90's shouting warrrrrrrg across a table top at one of the conventions.

I remember paying for something with a tenner and getting change for a twenty that day too, hehe.

Oops. Been reading this thread and 40k stuff in general and have gone out and bought some Eldar Guardians after 9 long years away from Warhammer.

I've decided to go for the Craftworld of Altansar, like the idea of an Eldar army that's possibly been corrupted by Chaos. I've bought a selection of paints, going to go with a purple/red/black theme with metallic bits here and there. Not sure what it will look like yet but the Guardians will sort of be the test models until I'm happy with a combination.

My friends are getting back into 40k also and want to play as soon as possible. I want to try and put together a 500pts Eldar army to begin with but just can't get an army list I'm happy with. I'm a big fan of Striking Scorpions but would it be wise to put them in a 500pt army? I have Guardians, will probably get some Dire Avengers and a Farseer, but I really don't know what units to use to fill up the rest of the point limit effectively. My two main opponents will be using Orcs and Imperial Guard so really I'm going to need something that will counter them well.
Anyone got any ideas? It's been such a long time that I can't remember how I used to play effectively and with what units :o

Who would have thought so many posters here di warhammer aye?

I will have to post some pictures of my converstions of my Spartan Marines.
