Tabletop Warhammer?

Playing Dawn of War and Space Marine gave me a bit of a yearning for games workshop. I used to be into it age 12-13 but haven't rolled a dice in anger for nearly twenty years. I had a look for my old miniatures and boxed games at my parents house. I found a boxed Man o' war in near immaculate condition, e.g some of the mast sprues not even separated. I found some elements of a Fantasy battle Chaos army e.g citadel & marauder miniatures for Chaos warriors, chaos knights, chaos marauders a chariot, an ogre and a dragon. There is a lot missing though including a bearded giant, demons of Khorne & slaanesh and some high elf miniatures including a hero on a griffin. I am also missing the box of the original mighty empires and 3rd or 4th edition fantasy battle. Having had a look on ebay I would say there is probably £300+ of stuff gone and I think my sister just threw it away!

I am thinking about maybe picking up some man o' war miniatures off ebay. It is probably just nostalgia though as I am not sure I will find anyone to play it with.

Just go into the nearest Games Workship. There are loads of people that play.

No I realise that, I have also had a look at gaming clubs etc. It's just with a 2yr old and another kid on the way I don't tend to get many afternoons off these days. Maybe if I sprinkle some kind of accelerant on their cornflakes I can grow myself a couple of gamers extra fast!

been working on this for a competition;

pleased enough to call it finished.

Nice, that's pretty awesome how long did it take you?

Not a criticism, but I think the exhaust would look more interesting with some darker layers in the crevices (or perhaps lighter on the tips? :p)

I love the staff head though, the glow effect on the eyes is very impressive.

Reminds me of the Chaplain I did a few years ago, a few bits unfinished but I don't believe i've posted any of my stuff yet

looks good.
I paint on and off, about an hour or so a day at the moment, got too many hobbies! At a guess maybe 4/5 hours.

thanks for the not toward the exhaust, it was missing a final highlight.

Well I've not got much done recently, been throwing my spare time at the cars of late.
So this weekend I decided to do a little painting for my Vampire counts.

Still quite disheartening looking at the 200+ core troops and numerous other models and thinking 'bugger still got that lot to paint'

I'm determined to have a fully painted army for the first time in my life :p

Looking over this thread is making me want to start again.

I'll probably be looking at getting a single unit to start with, since I'm more interested in painting at the moment. I figure if I paint it nicely enough my friends will want to start it too, then I'll get an army sorted.

Gonna have a look for some new paints and models etc, see what I can find.

I am planning to assemble my dreadfleet stuff soon. This will be the first miniatures I have touched for about 20 years, and as a result I have no idea what I am doing! What is the recommended glue for? is any old superglue fine?

Plastic models aren't they? I use Humbrol Poly Cement, meant to be very good stuff (and I find it is), designed for the model train people. Cheaper than the GW stuff as well. Think everything else you use superglue. Don't entirely trust me, I've only just started up again as well :D

humbrol or revell poly cement for me, preferably with the needle tips for plastic.

superglue/epoxy for resin depending on size of the model.

Pretty much :)

If/when the metal nozzle blocks use a lighter to heat it up and burn off the dried up paint.
Do this outside.
Do not do this if you are unable to use fire safely.
Do not lick the needle to make sure it's cooled down.
Do not try to peer down needle whilst it is still attached to the bottle.

thanks! I was a bit worried about messing up the assembly and then discovering I don't actually like the game, and can't sell it on.

Can anyone recommend a half decent airbrush? I see the GW one isn't too expensive but never having used or had one I can't tell a good one from a bad one... Ta.

Harder & Steenback make a number starting at about £50, the Evolution is probably the better bet though as you can get a variety of bits for it to change it from a detail brush to a tank basing brush* (the 2in1 set for example has two needles/nozzles and two different paint cups).

The bigger thing though, is almost to get a decent, quiet compressor that you can afford to have running without wearing earplugs:p

We've currently got a H&S Evo 2in1 with air valve, micro cup and a H&S basic brush, paired up with a quiet compressor with a 2l tank.

The main thing is to get a gravity brush imo, (paint stored o top) as it needs less air pressure to work than a suction (bottle underneath like the GW one), which allows you to be more precise.
The bottle underneath also gets in the way up close.

*IIRC they do 3 different needle and nozzle sets for it, along with pain cups from 0.5ml to 3ml, 5ml, 9ml, and 15ml (and a bottle thingy).

Excellent thanks, hadn't really thought of the bottle placement, that would have been a costly annoyance the first time I wanted to get up close and personal!

Found this guy too... he's got some amazing how to's...
