F1 Mugello test (1-3 May)

Some more info on Ferrari:

Apparently some major changes are still to come in for Barcelona (which makes me a little sceptical as to how quickly they can learn how the "new" car is handling. I suspect that in Barcelona they will struggle again, even if their car is fundamentally better. It takes 1-2 races to learn how to set the car up, so if the car handling changes radically, Barcelona could turn into a glorified test/learning session for Ferrari.

In Monaco (where driver skill is important), there is less dependency on aero, so it is possible that Ferrari could have a race winning car in Monaco, in the hands of Alonso.

I guess we shall have to wait and see how this pans out, but Alonso has said that if they are going to compete for the this year's title, they need these series of upgrades (Barcelona, Canada, Valencia) to work, quickly.

Petrov: Mugello too unsafe for F1 cars
yeah and like Monaco is
Yeah, but in Monaco you're not doing 210 coming up to the first corner. Also Mugello doesn't have any corners slower than ~100mph in an F1 car, yet very little run off in some places.

Don't get me wrong it's an awesome track - I love it in Forza. However it wouldn't be suited to an F1 race, not least because of safety, but also because there's no heavy braking zones so it'd end up being a follow-the-leader style affair.

Yeah Mugello would need some serious work to be able to host F1 races, and doing so would arguably ruin the track for everyone else who races their.

Mclaren had massive gearbox failure on Wednesday, fundamental problem with the design, , expect a change for either Hamilton or Button when we get to Barcelona, better to take the grid drop there than Monaco

To add to what Webber said about 10 laps at Mugello being better than 1000 at Abu Dhabi, Alonso has weighed in:

Fernando Alonso said:
Driving in Mugello, driving one lap here, is like driving 100 laps at another circuit.

@NobleF1 said:
The Mugello ratio: Alonso 1 lap = 100 elsewhere. Webber 10 laps = 1000 elsewhere. So: Mugello 100x better than other tracks. #timeforforza

:D

you could argure that 1 lap of mugello is like the hell of driving 100 or 1000 laps of abu dhabi :D

anyway what they probably mean is its a demanding circuit on the driver and needs a lot of concentration as its an actual challenege unlike most modern circuits

Maybe we should create the 'Mugello' scale to rank each circuit in terms of driver satisfaction.

For instance, Spa would be 1.15Mu, Abu Dhabi 0.1Mu and Valencia 0.07Mu :D

just imagine the can of worms that opens

handbags at dawn before any conclusions :)

(and thats without even considering that LH and JB have probably never driven it to start with - as its rarely used apart from for Ferrari 's own tests)

I think people will always find something to argue/debate about on this forum.
Once thing I have noticed is just how serious the F1 board is. My God...some replies I read on here would have you believe that perhaps their new born baby has been beaten.

I can understand if people work in the industry and take great offence to a comment about their own team, but for the casual viewer...you gotta chill out and learn to take everything you read on a computer forum with a massive grain of salt.

We've all heard about road rage. I think we need to coin a phrase - "F1 Forum Rage!"

Coming from sunama

I'm not so sure :p

Lets see...

All old tracks > all new tracks.
Tilke tracks are poor, although they are getting better.
Valencia is the worst track on the calendar, and a candidate for worst ever
Actual worst ever is the Vegas carpark
Some of the best tracks in the world are not on the F1 calendar at the moment
Abu Dhabi is massively impressive in everything except the key point of track itself
Spa is the best track on the calendar
Canada is the second best
Silverstone is held up by its heritage more than the quality of the track
Monaco is marmite
Sao Paulo should always be the final race of the year
Tracks with packed grandstands should always trump those where 4 people turn up but its government funded
Paul Ricard will suck in every possible way
Portimao should be on the calendar
Bahrain, Singapore, Korea, Valencia, and Barcalona could all be dropped from the calendar and nobody would care.

Go... :D
