Dalglish resigned/sacked?

There was absolutely no reason to get rid of Kenny. None at all.

Urm he blew £120m to win the League Cup with its Prize fund of £100k denying Cardiff a little success and stability, so clearly ignored the boards goal of as close to champions league as possible...

Mick was sacked for a lot less, McLiesh was sacked for a similar level of under performance and AVB was sacked for an even more confusing set of reasons.

Kenny should have gone at christmas when it was clear he had bought a sack of lemons and his entire vision was to shout at them to make sure they knew they were lemons, which have gone moldy now and you can't really do much with moldy lemons.

I assume everyone in football can see this is job is a bit of a poisoned chalice at the moment (bit like Villa) so all the up and coming team/manager combos are doing a good job of looking more fun than Liverpool. Martinez is the only one with a team that is punching above its weight a bit but I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with someone equivalent to Mark Appleton down at Pomp, a fairly decent coach with aspirations.

Journalists must make a right killing in the betting markets with these managerial vacancies...

Back AVB at high odds.
Report that AVB is a nailed on certainty.
Lay AVB at low odds after all the muppet readers have backed him.

Rince and repeat with different names until you're full green on Betfair. :p

We were 5th at Christmas, 2 points behind 4th! Yeah, but lets sack him anyway?

Sky Bet is the worst one, it's potentially unbelievably dodgy given they can report what they want on Sky Sports News.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelen will give manager Roberto Martinez seven days to decide on his future when the Spaniard returns from holiday next week.

The Latics are currently unable to plan for next season after Martinez was approached by Liverpool over their vacant manager's job, whilst there is also speculation linking him with Aston Villa.

tick tock

I think Martinez would be a poor option for you as well.

He exclusively gets praise for getting Wigan to win a few games at the end of each season. He lines up with a relatively strange formation that confuses other teams in order to do this.

It's a party trick.
Is he the man to save Liverpool? I don't think so. Not a chance.

lol could say the same about Fergie and his party tricks unleashing Park to confuse the other teams.

Snipped for space...
I don't get the contempt for Martinez based on being Wigan's manager, you need to look at what he personally has achieved at a particular club, he improved Swansea, he improved Wigan, he's achieved Wigan's survival on a shoestring budget when teams spending twice as much have been relegated. Wigan being almost bottom doesn't make Martinez a bad manager.

I'm not certain that most even think Martinez is a bad manager but for whatever reason it seems that for the past couple of years Wigan's survival in the Premier League has depended primarily on their end of season form which has been very good*. Now you can argue that it's the end result that matters and I've got a certain amount of sympathy with that view but sporting as it may be to give everyone else that much of a headstart it's probably not the best of ideas if you're trying to reach/stay at the top end of the table.

If he could get his team to play with their end of season form (or somewhere near it) for the majority of a season then he'd have quite a formidable record.

*This season it was 7 wins out of their last 10 games with 1 draw which is pretty close to outstanding, last season it was slightly less pronounced with 4 wins out of 10 and 3 draws.

There was absolutely no reason to get rid of Kenny. None at all. We finally had some semblance of stability when he came along. If they appoint Martinez as manager (nothing against him personally, he may well become a fantastic manager,) then I can only believe they've done so out of bad advice and ignorance.
That is blind faith at its finest, worse even than some of the stuff we used to see under Benitez.

This season you've dropped so far down the league that you were never seriously in the mix for a Europa League spot, nevermind anything beyond that. You also developed a nasty habit of losing at home to mediocre sides again and again.

£120m is no small amount, but to call it anything other than a complete waste is just not true, as of this moment the combined efforts of Downing/Carroll/Henderson amount to a fraction of that valuation. Everybody makes bad buys, but do you really think Dalglish has earned the right to be trusted with a such a huge amount of money again?

Dalglish has gone at the right time, he's still a Liverpool icon. If he stayed chances are he would have put the fans in the difficult position of actually asking for the club to get rid of him. He made a good start, but there's no doubt he's taken the club backwards this season, for so many reasons. Liverpool fans need to put their understandable love for Dalglish to one side and realise that they're giving him the benefit of the doubt that no other manager would get in similar circumstances.

You wanted him to succeed, to be the man to bring back the success, to make Liverpool compete at the top again, that's fine. But how far were you willing to let the club fall before finally admitting that maybe this isn't the man for the job? Bottom half of the table? Well you were 5 whole points above doing exactly that this year, if that isn't going backwards for a club like Liverpool then I don't know what is.

Liverpool would be making a big mistake getting Martinez as their manager, he hasnt proved anything other than keeping Wigan up from relegation yr in yr out. Hes not a bad manager by any means and i like the guy but i think Wigan is about as good as hes going to get at the moment.

Liverpool imho getting Martinez in would be akin to them last yr getting Hodgson in then sacking him. Dont think Martinez imo is the right man for Liverpool...someone like Rafa or another proven manager would be the better fit for Liverpool.

I'd put AVB above Martinez without a doubt. He's already done more, proved he can win things, and I've no doubt AVB's name carries a lot more weight around europe than Martinez's does, which could be the difference between a player signing for Liverpool or going somewhere else.

Martinez would have to start from the bottom in pretty much every way, which doesn't mean he can't do it, but it's a very tough ask.

So sack KK and bring in Martinez, won't be over the moon if that happens.

Yes Martinez had a good run at the end,but what exactly were his stats for win/losses before that.

Yep oops... (yeah I forgot what the table looked like at christmas) but how its gone since then has been less than impressive, still should had been sacked.
No idea what happened to our season but from January onwards we fell off a cliff :(

4th Place
December -2pts
January -4pts
February -7pts
March -13pts
April -13pts
May -17pts

Martinez would be mad to go to Villa, finished below Wigan this season lol and Liverpool is too much of hard work, the fans dont want him

Why would he even go, its not even a top job any more, Liverpool fans dreaming of yester year thinking they can win the league or Champs league.

lol could say the same about Fergie and his party tricks unleashing Park to confuse the other teams.

Indeed you could, that hasn't worked recently. :D :(

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Martinez is a bad manager, but like you I think he'd be crazy to go to Liverpool. The fans don't want him and many of them expect too much. Way too much.

If Martinez does go to Liverpool I hope the fans give him a chance and don't hate on him from the off.
I doubt he'll get the backing of everyone but he's not a megalomaniac like Roy was and his approach to football, and the way it should be played, is far more modern than our previous 2 managers so he'll certainly get the backing of most as long as he:

A. Avoids ****ging off previous managers;
B. Avoids ****ging off the fans;
C. Avoids ****ging off the players;

He will however have to improve on last seasons league performances if he wants to avoid the question all the people that thought Dalglish should've been kept will be dying to ask.

Is the by-product of smelting ore really a swear word? :o

Lucas (half season), Suarez (9 game ban etc) and Agger (7-9 weeks out I forget) missing from a lot of games in after the Xmas period.

We 'should' have had the cover but obviously we missed them a lot.

When Lucas played we only lost 1 game.
