Dalglish resigned/sacked?

If one of the supposed reasons that AVB didn't succeed at Chelsea was due to player power why does anyone think it'll be any different at a club with Jamie "I'd injure a team mate in training to get a first team spot" Carragher and Stevie G in it?

can't imagine carragher is likely to be first choice next season, so that won't be an issue, stevie g has been injured this season so won't be as much of an issue as it might have been if he'd had a decent season.

it also depends on AVB learning from his chelsea experience and not trying to push changes through to quickly.

got a feeling that the liverpool board are a bit more likely to back the manager than RA after making the decision to get rid of KD.

Didn't Abramovich instruct AVB to lower the age of the Chelsea squad and first team? His biggest problem, from the interviews players have given since his departure, was that he tried to change too much too soon.

For AVB to face similar problems at Liverpool not only would FSG have to instruct him to lower the age of an already young squad but Carragher and Gerrard would both have to act up as much as the old guard apparently did at Chelsea.

Interesting article explaining why Dalglish's season was a failure for Liverpool, the domestic cups are just not that important anymore they're more of a secondary bonus prize.

Also gives you an idea how much Chelsea have cost Spurs by kicking them out of the Champions League.

That's amazing, how could Kenny not understand that one?!?!

Also explains why Spurs have a 50m price tag on Modric (or probably Bale)...

Worst of all the 100K Liverpool took (for playing their first team all the way through that cup run) could have really benefited Cardiff who are struggling financially

Pool fans, what are your thoughts on the whole process?

I'm just finding it a bit embarrassing for Liverpool bring linked with every big name and being laughed off by them (even some small names have done that!)

LVG+AVB = OMG

That would be a mess with them two I just think the whole thing would be better done behind closed doors because the whole thing is damaging Pools rep IMO.

Just seems that anyone you get now will be a settling rather than your first choice.

Thoughts?

Not really. Liverpool are approaching managers for an "chat" about the job. If they were to approach managers with the sole goal of reaching an "agreement" with that manager to take over the club then it would be a different story. Doubt Martinez etc would turn them down if they knew they were the number one, sole target.

Liverpool haven't announced or commented on anything

Their biggest mistake is that they've gone about things in the correct manner and asked clubs permission to talk to their manager. Unless they were nailed on to get the job, any manager already in a job would be foolish to accept an interview at another club. Had Liverpool approached Rodgers (for example) via his agent, I'm sure he'd have been happy to discuss the job, safe in the knowledge that had he not got it, Swansea fans would have been none the wiser.

As for us settling for whoever's left rather than getting our first choice. If we believe what's being reported, the club haven't chosen a preferred candidate. They just want to interview a handful of managers and then take it from there.

The cynic in me believes that whoever the next manager is, has already got the job anyway and this is a bit of a show. The same thing happened when we appointed Benitez; he had already got the job but the club still went through the process of interviewing a few other managers.

Thoughts?

I'm not a Liverpool fan but I don't get that impression, it makes sense to approach a wide range of people who might be suitable and see which one is likely to be the best fit. It might have been better to do so a bit more circumspectly so that there was less publicity attendant but I would suspect that at least some of this is a PR exercise which only really has value if you conduct it in public. It does however have the potential to backfire somewhat if you don't manage to get the person you wanted though but that's possibly not an issue as they've already got them.

Reports on twitter that AVB has agreed terms and will be unveiled in the next few days.

Source is Portuguese press that has said it.

Not sure on AVB, he did mess up quite badly at Chelsea. By all accounts he was told to move on from the old guard, so did he believe in what he was doing, or did he take the fall when the path he was ordered to take didn't work?

We'll find out if he does get the Liverpool job, whatever happens though he needs to be given plenty of time.
