Dalglish resigned/sacked?

I'm still living in the hope that we haven't heard a peep from Rafa because he's finalising his new contract behind closed doors because lets face it, he loves talking to the media and if he wasn't offered the job he would've spoken to someone by now... right?

In reality, we're getting Martinez :(

The guy that wrote that article claimed a few days ago that AVB was scheduled for an interview with the owners this week but is now claiming they've not even approached him. It would appear as if he's making it up as he goes along.

BaZ has hit the nail on the head. Kept an eye on the guardian as I thought they were generating good, sound info regarding AVB. However, over the past two days twitter has been going insane and it's become blatantly apparent no journo or ITK has any leaks on what the hecks going on, which I think is frustrating them. Which leads me to think the guardian have just made the article up.

It's a waiting game, just wish they'd hurry up.

Contact made with with Rafa is what I've just read on an LFC forum called RAOTL (otherwise known as The Rattle). Is a difficult forum to register with and one which journalists often try to get access.

So what we've learnt so far is they haven't approached anyone, taking their time and establishing who they actually need to clean up this mess...

:( Liverpool might actually not be the punch line to some jokes next season! Better not be sniffing around our Nige though, he maybe a scouser but we can't loose him now.

They clearly made their mind up some time ago. The Martinez rumours were circulating even before KD got the sack. The other names being put about are just to appease fans and so they can say the seach was thorugh.

Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas had his first face-to-face meeting with Mr Henry, Mr Werner, Mr Laudrup and Mr Goncalves (Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas's agent) today.

It was an informal meeting where Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas and Mr Goncalves were shown around the FSG complex with a chance for them to meet staff associated with Liverpool football club based in FSG's offices.

Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas and Mr Goncalves took the lead in discussions today. Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas and Mr Goncalves are basically looking for a project suited to them which needs to be a long-term role where Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas will be given time to stamp his authority on the team. He was apparently given no choice but to join Chelsea as FC Porto accepted Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas's buyout clause. Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas was happy to join Chelsea but felt he was rushed into the position and did not have a chance to discuss the way in which he wanted to work at Chelsea. He was never ever comfortable in the role and was handed players who he personally did not want to manage.

In today's talks, he simply stated that he needs to pick the right team to manage as his reputation was harmed at Chelsea. His agent has indicated two other teams are interested in Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas; one in Italy and one in Spain. However, Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas's preference is to manage a Premier League team. He is also highly concerned about who is going to be the Director of Football and what his exact role in proceedings is going to be. Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas has stated that he is open to working with a DoF but wants FSG to understand that his role is manager of the club and he should be making the final decision as far as the team is concerned on the pitch.

FSG plan to meet Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas and Mr Goncalves again tomorrow for further talks.

Whatever happens I hope to **** its soon, this is painful and if it's Martinez :o

Martinez has gone to two different teams and made them better, without spending through the roof. AVB took over the portugal "Man Utd" who have won 8 of the past 10 league titles, 5 cup's, and 3 european cups(while AVB's year was the first time in the "weaker" Europa cup competition since they won it last).

This is a team that usually somewhat walks to the title, he spent quite a bit of money, improving a team that can basically win the league every year except the odd year.

His only other job was Chelsea, where he failed to improve them, failed to impose a new system on the team, failed to motivate them, failed to adapt the system in any way at all, failed to get the players to adapt to a system and he came in to stamp his authority on the team by making arbitrary decisions to prove what a big man he is.

He's proven nothing except he can take over a winning team, in a winning league with the most money that wins the league almost every year, and do that again.

I mean, I'd love AVB to go to Liverpool, but why would any liverpool fan. If he'd gone anywhere and proven himself by taken one team, completely rebuilding it or completely changing that teams fortunes(taking a genuine middle table team in any league to be competitive at the top), but he's had one successfull season at a club with next to no competition, that was already very very strong.

Don't forget that 99% of the reason for the success was Falcao having a "break out" season, he had a very good one in the league before, but 17 goals in 14 in Europe, and Hulk coming good and also having a great year alongside him. Sorry but any manager would have won what they won if their two strikers come good, one scoring almost 20 more, the other 5 more but FAR more in europe.

I don't get the contempt for Martinez based on being Wigan's manager, you need to look at what he personally has achieved at a particular club, he improved Swansea, he improved Wigan, he's achieved Wigan's survival on a shoestring budget when teams spending twice as much have been relegated. Wigan being almost bottom doesn't make Martinez a bad manager.

Liverpool Echo and a respected ITK both say AVB is out of the running.

Martinez, as good as he may be, shouldn't even be getting a look in for this job. Can't believe we're turning our noses up at managers who have won league and European titles for a manager who has kept Wigan in the Premiership :(

If it turns out to be Martinez, then I'm really going to struggle to find enthusiasm. We've already been through hell since H&G arrived, I really don't think I can stomach a manager whose mere rumoured appointment is already stirring unease among the fans.

There was absolutely no reason to get rid of Kenny. None at all. We finally had some semblance of stability when he came along. If they appoint Martinez as manager (nothing against him personally, he may well become a fantastic manager,) then I can only believe they've done so out of bad advice and ignorance.

I think Martinez would be a poor option for you as well.

He exclusively gets praise for getting Wigan to win a few games at the end of each season. He lines up with a relatively strange formation that confuses other teams in order to do this.

It's a party trick. Is he the man to save Liverpool? I don't think so. Not a chance.

He's going to be a hell of a lot cheaper than our other options, he's likely to accept whatever brief FSG give him and he's media friendly.

My biggest concern will be keeping hold of the likes of Skrtel, who's apparently waiting to see who becomes our manager before entering contract talks, Reina and Suarez. Is he a big enough name to keep what we've got and attract the calibre of player we need to get us back in to the CL? No, not by a long shot.

Has there been any successful american owners in football?
(Yes United have won a lot under Glazers but a lot was already put in place/still have Ferguson's mentality with an average team.)

This just looks like Roy mk.2, sacked by christmas, media friendly, cheaper and a yes man to the owners, if they've turned their nose up at AVB well....whatever FSG.

I personally wouldn't mind Martinez with a DoF, don't see anything wrong him myself, has an ethos about how his teams play (the right way as it were), seems quite savvy aswell. Didn't Wigan just finished 9 points behind us, losing their best player and having spent 100mill or so less too. Is he my 1st choice? no. Personally I would want Rafa back, not going to happen though.

The majority of Liverpool FC fans really do need to wake up and smell the coffee, currently as it stands we are in the 2nd tier of English clubs, needing a complete overhaul in how we operate. We haven't won the league in over 20 years now, why the hell would a "big name" manager want to come in?

Oh and not really applicable here, but for Liverpool FC fans in general - The Liverpool Way hasn't worked in 20 years, time to bury it on move on with a new ethos, a new way of thinking/working.
