Dalglish resigned/sacked?

Personally unless Martinez has a majority backing with the supporters I can only see it going the same way it did with Hodgson. He needs to start with 100% support from the terraces, would he get that?

It would only go the same way as things went with Hodgson if he is as useless as Hodgson was.

No matter what he did? You mean bitch about everyone and everything whilst failing massively as our manager :o

well i don't know the full in's and out's of it but it seemed he was never given a chance. couple that with the comparison to the transfer kitty he got to dalglish and it was obvious it was doomed to fail.

martinez may get the best out of carroll and i think carroll would respect him and respect works both ways in this, will other, more senior players respect him though?

Google Roy Hodgson Liverpool quotes and read some of the things he said while he was manager :)

Not sure Carroll's a Martinez type of player but the respect he'll get from senior players is a massive concern in all honesty.

Personally I cant see Martinez coming in and doing as well as let alone better than Dalglish straight away so that may mean bottom half of the table come December, if that means supporters are going to want him out then it's a wrong appointment from the get go

You couldn't see Man City finishing higher than 3rd either so what do you know? :p ;)

Whoever the next manager is will be in all intents and purposes the owners first appointment. They didn't want Dalglish but had no choice but to appoint him; Hodgson was doing so bad that a change had to be made and Dalglish was the only option at the time, and once he took over and done so well to begin with, he had to be given the job permanently. Whoever gets the job now will be given time by the owners and as long as there's signs of progress, I'm sure the supporters will give him time too.

What would expectations for next season be then if Martinez does take over?

tbf Purdy I remember before he'd even been appointed a lot of Liverpool supporters on here didn't want him, he may not of done anything to endear himself to supporters once the appointment was made official but he was fighting an uphill battle to begin with.

CL qualification. In reality, a big improvement on our league performance this year.

even your owners have been advised to lower their expectations for cl football. it wasn't that long ago cl football was a minimum requirement for a liverpool manager, things are a lot more competitive now. the top 6 next season is going to be a new level imo. it could even be looked at as 2-6 if city start running away with things.

To be fair, I didn't want him at all, I was still devastated Rafa was sacked.
That didn't mean he didn't have my complete support or I gave his signings the benefit of the doubt, then he began to open his trap over and over and no results either, that is why I greatly disliked him, never pre determined.

Like Robbo says I think you're setting him up to fail with those expectations.

Why? We were in with a shout going into March but our form fell away dramatically. We need to add a bit of depth to our squad and hopefully get our key players on the pitch more than we managed this season.

It's not as if the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs don't have their own issues. Chelsea need a fair bit of work doing, who knows where Arsenal can keep hold of RvP and want it would mean if he left and with Spurs missing out on the CL, who knows what will happen to them too.

As both me and Pigeon said though, getting closer to the CL spots is the main target. Qualifying will be the ultimate target but seen as a bonus I suppose.

It's very clear what the expectations are (Fans expectations coming a very far 2nd behind Fenway Sports Group) Top 4 or your out. Two cup finals do not cut the Mustard
