From the 'official' post today regarding design, balancing and stuff from Blizzard (front page of Battle.net):

On average players have created 3 characters each
80% of characters are between levels 1 and 30
1.9% of characters have unlocked Inferno difficulty
54% of Hardcore players chose a female character
The majority of Hardcore deaths (35%) occur in Act I Normal
The most common level 60 build in the game is only used by 0.7% of level 60 characters of that class (not including Passive diversity)
The most used runes for each class at level 60 are Barbarian: Best Served Cold, Demon Hunter: Lingering Fog, Wizard: Mirror Skin, Monk: Peaceful Repose, Witch Doctor: Numbing Dart

Interesting stuff about Legendarys and Gems as well...

I am currently lvl 23 with my barb on normal difficulty, if I choose to reply some quests from earlier such as the skeleton king bloke and the butcher etc, Can I keep the dropped loot and put them in my stash for another char I make. Thus getting new char geared up better? I have just killed Belial (sp) and he dropped a few things for level 7,8 and 12 as well as couple of things for my level.

yes

Sorry for polluting the thread with price stuff.

Cheapest place to get Diablo 3? :(

I think Tesco and Amazon are the only ones offering it at a sensible price however they're both out of stock. So it basically comes down to waiting for them to restock in order to save about £10 or just buying a CD key directly from blizzard. I have no idea when new stock will come in :/

Edit

I just called the Tesco Enterainment customer service line (cheapest I can find online) and asked for a rough indication as to when they might restock Diablo 3. The helpful chap explained that the supplier they use has no stock therefore Tesco is unlikely to have it stocked any time soon (1-2 weeks).

Anyone having problems with the Auction House ?

I have 2 completed items but they are not showing up so I cannot send them to my stash

FFS... Just put an expensive item for sale in the AH however the request timed out and now the item has totally disappeared.

You given it time? Might take a few minutes.

If anyone wants to read the Diablo 3 Design article its here. Seems interesting, though I really don't think there plans for the jeweler/blacksmith will have any effect.

We've also seen some people saying our intention with Inferno is just one-shot you to make it difficult. While damage is a bit spikier than we'd like, we're actually seeing a pretty significant number of people attempting Inferno without sufficient gear. There's a good chance that returning to the previous Act to farm upgrades will do the most to help you survive. That said, we’d like to shift some of the focus away from survival and more toward using a variety of offensive tactics to succeed. Survival will still be important, but finding ways to maximize your damage while staying alive is more exciting.

Bolded bit is important.

They're also saying they're trying to remove dependency on certain skills/runes to progress.

or issues which aren’t as severely out of line, we plan to react in a more measured fashion -- through client patches. We have a patch coming within the next week (patch 1.0.2) that has been in development since the game’s launch and is mainly aimed at addressing service issues. The first real game balance changes, outside of hotfixes, will be coming in patch 1.0.3.

The intent of incoming damage is that it should be a very consistent drain on your health, and mitigating that drain is a major part of what makes Inferno mode difficult. Right now, there’s a lot more damage “spikiness” occurring than feels right, and that’s one major area we’re looking to adjust in patch 1.0.3.

To correct these issues, we’re looking to adjust the Blacksmith costs for training (gold and pages) and crafting from levels 1-59, and reduce the cost of combining gems so that it only requires two gems instead of three (up to Flawless Square). Both of these changes are scheduled for patch 1.0.3.
Wonder if they'll refund us our BS training costs..

The above are the ones I think are most interesting, and the stuff that sounds good.

To be honest in general, I find damage can be a bit 'spikey'...

In Hell at the end of Act II atm, and finding all the damage to be quite yeah, spikey. I'm getting 2 hit remarkably easily... I've got relative good gear, that's been AH bought, but I could probably do with better body/legs/helm/belt, but everything else is pretty good...

About 6k DPS and 24k Hp....

I've got some alright gear ready for when I hit 60, but am aiming to be at the point where I can farm Act III/IV Hell/Act1 Inferno really.

Auction House is a complete joke. Really hope that's what they're fixing in the 1.0.2 patch, as at the moment there's no point even trying the AH from about 5pm onwards at peak times...

Also... I NEED MORE AH SPACE! I have almost a whole tab of stuff to sell at the moment. Mostly semi-decent rares for their relative levels..

Sold an item on the AH for 400k, money never arrived. Lots of people posting the same things in the Tech Support forum on the official website. Ugh :/

Flibby, it'll come through. I've had that problem before. It just takes a while. Which can be frustrating, but it's just the servers aren't dealing with the load and everythings back logged...

Finally made it to Inferno, yay. Got a good group for Hell Diablo and was pretty easy (me wiz, 2 barb and 1 monk).

Inferno act1 is ok except for some champs who are crazy and so have been dying a bit. I blame the heat, 8pm now and still 28C such BS. With the crappy state of British building and not having aircon this is why I hate Summer. :(

About to play for a bit now if anyone wants to join in. Just under Leorics house near the end or so of Act1 on Inferno. I am a barb and I am trying to get to grips with not dying as much lol.

ah ok cool, ive just bought a 950dps 2h weapon for my wd, i had a 700dps 1h with mojo, im going straight back to my 1h and mojo, paid 1.8mil for a **** 700 damage upgrade, so **** not being able to see the stat changes before you buy.

That's why Ive only bought a cheap 7xx dps 2hander for 50k before buying expensive one to see if its worth :P.

Anyways, from 700 to 900 it was OBVIOUS that you wont get much out of it, I mean common, the off hand gives you huge damage as well.
Always look at the stats as well, especially int/str/dex/crit or whatever as it increases your damage by a lot.

Prgoressing through act 2 inferno, shatterborne hits me for 53k, I have 68% damage mitigation through armor and 60.5% physical resistance.
Do they expect people to farm act 1 for 6 month to get the gear? I am not a lucky person, I am yet to fin an upgrade from act 1 and stuff that is valuable never drops for me, most I get 20k off AH per item.

Don't focus on lifesteal (% of damage done to life) if you're wanting to progress in inferno. The effectiveness of that effect is reduced by 80% in inferno difficulty. Life on hit is where it is at for Barbs along with the usual defensive stats (resists, armor, reduced damage from elites)

Hmmm that sucks. Although by the time I am looking at Inferno I'll be on much better gear regardless.

Guess due to the scaling and cost of gems that socketed items aren't really worth it in late game scenarios?
