*** The official HTC One X thread ***

I like customising phones. However until rooting and customising can be done without invalidating the warranty I am staying put. I have a batch 23 One X that admittedly is working perfectly, but until the warranty expires or I can root without HTC knowing about it then I dare not. Would just be tempting fate!

I'm in the same boat - would like to be able to root, if nothing else to get Titanium up and running, but not prepared to go down the unlocked bootloader path. Roll on S-Off

I'm running with Revolution 6.1. It's actually incredibly nice and smooth and retains sense which I was never fussed about with my Desire, but Sense 4 is pretty slick.

I downloaded the One_X_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0 from XDA which made rooting and unlocking a complete breeze

Is it just a case of flashing the ARHD6.1 zip from the SD card to update from ARHD6.0 or do you need to do the super wipe etc stuff?

Have you put your sim in yet? How's the batterylife coming on now you've had it for a while?

Yeah, it ported over on Wednesday but I cut my T-Mobile SIM down before that anyway so have been using my HOX for about a week now. Really like it, although I wouldn't if I hadn't rooted it simply because of the app switcher key instead of menu key. I don't know how anyone can live with having a massive black menu bar come with most apps and games!

Battery is good. Took a beating the first few days as you'd expect from constantly tweaking it, but as I type it's on 64% since 8am this morning and that's with heavier use than normal (few photos, Instagram, Facebook upload etc).

The Dropbox syncing is also awesome and very useful.

Come on, engage brain before typing.

I needed to know if the web exclusive deals could be done in-store because there are two contradicting messages.

I meant why do you need to go in store; why don't you just buy it online (and get cashback)?

I've got all sound tweaks off and it happens in whatever sound application I use (poweramp, bsplayer, the standard music app). There is also a noticeable click when the sound has finished and before the hissing goes away. I might have a faulty unit so I'm going to try and find a Vodafone shop with a test unit and see if that has the same problem.

I've been reading around and what I describe isn't uncommon.

I get this too and lots of people on the xda forums.... Think it is the soundchip inside and so hardware problem.... Pretty poor..... One main way round it is to use Bluetooth headphones, would make sure they are apt-x supported though as the HOX is.

Got mine back from HTC for a repair, seems like they changed just about all the innards including the battery for some reason! Anyway its working fine at the moment but will see in a months time. I hope they get S-OFF at xda as I am stuck on the Three firmware which is still 2 updates behind with 1.28.....

it isnt just ht as that was an example.

the 2 letters and numbers will be under one of the barcodes as serial format.

letters are the week and the number is the month.

To check your model number goto...
Settings, About phone, Phone Identity. Alternatively check the back of your phone's box. (barcode)

example : HT23, HT34 and SH24

Mine's 23 if that means anything, haven't noticed any Wifi/GPS faults (other than poor signal on Wifi) - but I do have the headphone fault.

You can, you simply put an official RUU back on before sending it back. That would lock it back up and to most HTC Techs would appear stock.

I ran it in place without using SU going from 6.0 to 6.1

I'm going to post here what I've posted at XDA:

Well I've had my SGS3 for only 2 days and have made my mind up already. I'm keeping the HOX.

As much as I like the SGS3 I just don't like the look of TouchWiz generally. It's features are good as in codec support but Sense has the much better Social Network integration. Simple things like Facebook birthdays in calender and you can directly send a greeting are very useful.

The screens....

My SGS3 has a yellow tint so requested a replacement from Amazon will see if that has it as well. But I can now say I prefer the SLCD2 over the AMOLED. Sure blacks are not as deep and contrast not as great the natural colours are better on the HOX, viewing angles are on par, text appears cleaner and sharper on the HOX and the benefit of a full RGB display and no need to worry about screen burn!

The cameras, both are good but I slightly prefer the HOX for it's lower aperture. SGS3 wins for videos but hopefully some devs can work some magic for high bit recording.

Both feel good in the hand and both look good in the flesh.

Sense vs Touchwiz - Both good for it's own feature set but I prefer Sense. Sense needs to be better optimised as there are microlags where as TW just flies.

SQ - SGS3 wins for headphone out, much nicer sounding and will improve with Voodoo but I've got my original SGS/Sansa Clips as well for music so not a biggie.

Call quality both are good but I think the SGS3 slightly edges it sounding louder.

Speakers - SGS3 is louder but can sound a bit muffled but the HOX volume may not be as high but sounds consistent.

Browsers - SGS3 wins for speed, loads pages quicker and it's faster than HTC. But HTC has text reflow which for me is worth the extra second or so it takes to load so I don't have to zoom in and out on a regular basis. Both have read modes but HTC implement this better with the bigger button to access it.

Battery - Tested the SGS3 on my normal working day conditions, both on their current stock radios and basebands drain battery similar. I can see the SGS3 will last a tad longer and in future with extended batteries will kill off the HOX but the HOX can last me a day anyway and custom kernels and once 3.x sources are out should improve. Teg 3 has the companion core so once better optimised kernels make use of this it should also be better.

Storage - SGS3 wins hands down, nothing more to say.

Development - SGS3 wins for unlocked bootloader. Both phones will have supported devs and the current roms for HOX are fine.

Well to sum it off, both are excellent phones. If I didn't have the HOX I'd be happily pleased with the SGS3 and it's screen but by having the HOX as my main phone since release the screen is just too good to give up.

I will be happy with my HOX and can happily pass by the SGS3 whilst I await another device, especially interested in the Note 2 whenever that comes out as that will be Samsungs high end device.

Both phones are current high end phones, whichever you choose be happy, it's good for Android and good for us as consumers to have this competition. It will only get better and look forward to the next set of phones to play with.

Awesome pictures, how did you manage the panorama shots with the HOX camera?

Is it an option, as I can't see one?

Press the 'A' in the corner of the camera interface.

Those pictures are absolutely incredible, arguably some of the best I've ever seen from a phone camera. Superb.

Thanks guys, I miss Turkey. I myself was impressed with the camera. Best I've seen taken from a phone as well!

I'd hazard a guess at mine being a H23 model cause I got it a week or so after it launched. Haven't had a single issue yet, not even the poor Wifi signal thing.

You can't, they have measures in place so they can always tell if you've rooted or not, and won't help you.

It's a bit of a joke really, but that's HTC.

think what your trying to say robbo is The One X's bootloader can be unlocked using their website.
But doing so will register your phones IMEI onto their records.
This will void your warranty.
Relocking will not help.

is that what you meant m8?

regards

Here's my comparison of the two -

Totally agree with this.
