*** The official HTC One X thread ***

Tempted to give the rooting and boot loader unlocking gig a go tonight. Seems straight forward enough apart from having to use my server because that's got a Windows VM on it. No guides/apps knocking around for the Mac?

What ROM should I give a try? I want as basic ICS as possible.

I done mine on OSX (Hackintosh) it was simples.

Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592922

As for Rom I suggest ARHD or Maximus both based on the leaked test build, despite being a test it's stable and solid.

Oh great, thanks.

Which recovery thingy did you use? The new one from Koush?

I get a feeling I'm going to break something when adding the new ROM. The actual unlocking looks super easy though.

Yup one from here:

Once you've unlocked and flashed the recovery, go into recovery and make a backup of your stock rom.

After that, choose your desired rom and flash away, it's not difficult just follow the directions word by word, if anything does go wrong you can reflash your backup.

not heard that rumour?

add it to the rumour of note 2 having smash proof bendable screens :P

and moto droid (fighter) razor hd i think its all whispers in the dark :D

next thell have transparent screens with sexy hologram assistants serving me on hand and knees :D

Probably September to November, a similar LG model has been doing the rounds in a few benchmarks. There should be a WP8 version around in Q4 too (zenith)

Well, I'd have to say go for it.

The signal issues obviously aren't widespread, the first I've heard of it is the chap above who had that problem. You can have those sorts of issues with any phone, not just HTC ones. It does seem to be a specific and potent issue on the One S though.

As for size, it depends on your hands, but if you can handle the One X fine then the bigger and better screen is entirely worth it, without question. It's a massive deal for me and why I couldn't consider the One S, despite the battery life being better and it having a better CPU.

My hands can handle it :D What's battery life like .... honestly? I might have changed earlier but for battery life which is pretty decent on the S. Even now I can't make my damned mind up on the S. If only signal reception was a touch better I'd not be considering it - damn you HTC

I'd wait for the One XXL :D Four 28nm krait cores, Adreno 320 and 2GB!

Stop it!!! :D:D

It's fairly good, but it won't be as good as the S.

If you stick a ROM on there and use the correct and appropriate settings, you'll get around 3 and a half hours screen on time at worst (I've recently managed 4:40 over 19 hours using auto brightness!).

Usage patterns can affect it, among other things, so I couldn't say how it will turn out for you very accurately.

A conservative guess on average - 3 hours screen time over 24-30 hours.

With the stock ROM, auto brightness and WiFi always on I get around 3 hours screen time and 24 hours of standby out of it. It really is the screen time that affects the overall battery life - the thing would sit in standby forever.

Hoping for better with a new ROM.

Richy, sad to see that you might be leaving the S :( But I can't blame you considering the troubles that you are having with the signal :( If I was experiencing the same, there is no way I would put up with it either (had enough of it with my spica on the 3 network  :p), although I would probably go for the GS 3 instead (plus it does feel more comfortable and smaller to hold than the X despite being slightly larger, which might be a plus for you?), even though I really don't like the looks/design and touchwiz, but a case would sort half of the problem out for the design/looks and a custom ROM with an ICS theme would sort the software problem out :p :D

Although, I would just wait for the next update for the S first, as apparently it is suppose to improve reception (no idea as to when it will be out, I imagine that it won't be too long though), although have you got the that latest update since you are rooted and have a custom ROM on?

Coming soon...?

Still in a total ponder on what to get, i was in tesco earlier and looked at a sgs3 imo it looks naff compared to the One X, i really like the look of the one x its just a shame it doesnt have a micro sd slot, i just bought a class 10 32gb card for my sensation which i wanted to use in my next handset decisions decisions

I just got a HTC One X on upgrade from O2 from iPhone 4, Ive found the default ui to be a bit sluggish compared the iphone and even to the SG3 that I played with in the shop. Apex is a bit better, but its not buttery smooth like I was expecting.

Theres a lot different but its definitely not as streamlined as ios. I guess that happens when you have to make an OS work on multiple 3rd party devices unlike Apple.

Still unsure on which phone to sell.

1 - probably a little too big if similar to it's predecessor?

2 - You're being silly, the word moto should be enough to leave alone in the UK :o

3 - Can you specify your own hologram :D I could draw up a short list

So you'll see the day out with reasonable usage. The SGS III is a possible. Not keen on Touchwizz though realize you don't have to put up with it. Not experienced TW on the latest Samsung SIII. Size - it seemed not a whole not bigger than the One S which is good though it seemed maybe not as well built as the One S/X. That said it seemed firm enough when subjected to a 'twist test'. Couldn't turn the particular phone on to look at screen - and that was nothing to do with the twist test

Nexus - I'll have to have a look at a GS III that is working really. Only a quick look at one in a shop before the assistant pounced on me. I thought it would be a whole lot bigger than the One S with the 4.8" screen but not so. I would be buying outright so cost does come into it. I'd also have to put my One S back to stock before thinking of selling it. Anyway, I've not left the One S club yet and are ever hopeful it'll get sorted. I could live with the weak signal but you know when you have a weak signal there is no margin for areas where signal is actually poor to hold onto signal. Living and working out in the sticks you don't expect a great signal everywhere but when you know your house has a one and your damned phone struggles to hold onto it you are heading for disappointment. Head over to the city and all is well with full signal (mostly). Takes a bit of working out what the problem is though that is HTC's job, not mine.

I'm not in any hurry. If signal issue was to be sorted then I'd not be looking at anything else for sure. I'm using the Trickdroid ROM and it pretty much is on the same software version as yours. Well in honesty it is the same .. 1.7summert? Hopefully we'll see soon though I'd not get the update over the air but through a TrickDroid update?

I could go back to stock (I think) I have a nandroid backup I took before flashing any roms - I presume this would put me back to stock or there are stock EU roms to download and flash? I've never actually gone back so may need to read up on that or ask about?

Heres the thing though. Yesterday I ended up with about 37% without signal and today so far I'm on 0%? I'm in the same place of course. Maybe yesterdays heavy rain had something to do with it? I really hope an update sorts the issue
