*** The official HTC One X thread ***

It tells you in most ROM instructions.

After connecting the phone via USB and putting it in fastboot mode, you just open CMD (cd to the relevant folder) and type: fastboot flash boot boot.img

(boot.img being the file that the ROM tells you to flash)

Alternatively, like on ArHD7, there are pre-made .bat files just for this.

is this expected when i try to flash a karnel?

C:\Android_Fastboot_KIT_V2.0\Android>fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (4352 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.576s]
writing 'boot'...
(bootloader) Format partition LNX done
OKAY [ 0.487s]
finished. total time: 1.064s

edit:

hi all. i tried to flash this rom just now and it diddnt work. after installing the new karnel like this:

C:\Android_Fastboot_KIT_V2.0\Android>fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (4352 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.576s]
writing 'boot'...
(bootloader) Format partition LNX done
OKAY [ 0.487s]
finished. total time: 1.064s

and then doing a wipe on data and cache, i them attempted to install the rom.

it installed fine and then i rebooted the phone and it gets stuck in a infinite loop on loading the splash screen and then rebooting the phone again.

any suggestions?

My phones had really bad signal for the last 24hrs, driving me mad. I just looked down and noticed the screen had popped out the casing. I pushed it back in and now my signal is fine again. must have sat on the phone or something, didn't notice because I got a gel case on.

Guess another one to send backto HTC, pretty poor quality the phone is.

mine gets stuck on the first htc splash screen and reboots. Also i have wiped eveverthing before installing the rom and it diddnt work.

this is what i did.

1. unlock bootloade from htcdev
2. install clockworkmod recovery
3. flashboot boot boot.img from the Android Fastboot KIT latest version
4 go into recovery and wipe cache, dalvik cache and data.
5. install rom v2.0 via from sdcard zip file
6 wait for it to finish and then reboot the phone

Anybody with a One X suffer from weak mobile signal reception? I have a One S and it seems to be getting worse. Losing connection far too often and at home the best I'm getting today is no bars  I'm on Three UK and their signal is sound with -85dBm on a Moto Defy+ with same sim in. I'm thinking of chucking the towel in with the damned One S and looking about for something else. Three and HTC have replaced the phone and taken second one back in for repair and given it a perfect bill of health  and yet here we are.

I'm nervous of buying another HTC for fear it suffers from the same issue. I live in the sticks but make no mistake the Three mast is just about on out doorstep. One S is a good phone but this connection issue is well pi**ing me off.

My signal is as strong, if not stronger than all of my other phones. It's never been an issue and I haven't seen it mentioned much either.

What about the Galaxy S III? iPhone 4S?

so flash it and then installrom without wipe?

Yeah, give that a try. If it doesn't work, wipe it and try it again. If that doesn't work, look on XDA, I'm sure plenty of people have had similar issues.

i give up. not working for me. hope i can revert back to stock rom i was in. what a joke

As long as you can get to the recovery, fixing anything is straight forward.

You must have done something incorrectly, did you follow the exact install instructions for the ROM?

Try ArHD 7, that has a .bat file that will do the CMD stuff for you. Follow it all to the word.

My HOX is in for repair for the same issue, but I'm on vodafone. I'll see what they come back with once I get the phone back. If I have the same problem I'll be chopping the phone in for a SGS3.

edit:

it seems to work now. what i done was to wipe everything before fastboot boot.img(all instructions said to do it "after" not before) and then i installed karnel, did a wipe and then install rom

These are the instructions for Maximus:

  • Download ROM and place it on your SD card
  • Boot your phone in bootloader mode (vol down + power)
  • Use Android Fastboot KIT in attachment in order to install new boot.img
  • Go in recovery
  • Do Wipe in order to avoid issues caused by previous ROMs
  • Select "choose zip from sdcard"
  • After flashing process is complete, reboot the device

Did you install the ROM after wiping? ;) :p

At least it works now.

What about the Galaxy S III? iPhone 4S?

I've done a search and apart from the wifi thing earlier on can't find anyone grumbling about poor mobile signal reception. I have read a few reports of the One V being the same as the One S on the reception issue? The S III doesn't appeal and the mrs has an iPhone 4S and and I don't like that either though it has no probs with mobile signal reception.

Well, try the One X then? Why did you go for the One S instead to begin with?

Why doesn't the S3 appeal, not a fan of the design? :p

Hope you have more luck than me. They loaded the the update that became available to me the same day I posted and then sent it back. I could have done that myself? Too many with the issue on the One S and I've no confidence anything will be done about it. Certainly if it is a hardware issue.

I may look at a S/H Galaxy S II though in wrong forum to use words like that :D

Size - but put the X and S together and there isn't too much in it overall? Screen is bigger of course but body not that much. I would try a One X but don't want to go through the hassle of a return if it too suffers from the issue. I may consider S/H off the auction site if price appeals though would have to be sure there isn't a signal issue

S3 just doesn't appeal too me.

4.3 inch screen appeals rather than larger but could live with the One X's. I know nobody with an X and Three won't lend me one to try

Well, I'd have to say go for it.

The signal issues obviously aren't widespread, the first I've heard of it is the chap above who had that problem. You can have those sorts of issues with any phone, not just HTC ones. It does seem to be a specific and potent issue on the One S though.

As for size, it depends on your hands, but if you can handle the One X fine then the bigger and better screen is entirely worth it, without question. It's a massive deal for me and why I couldn't consider the One S, despite the battery life being better and it having a better CPU.

Tempted to give the rooting and boot loader unlocking gig a go tonight. Seems straight forward enough apart from having to use my server because that's got a Windows VM on it. No guides/apps knocking around for the Mac?

What ROM should I give a try? I want as basic ICS as possible.
