Yeah but to be honest I doubt that has come into it, the rollout plans are probably largely driven by cost/efficiency factors. I live a fair way from my exchange (currently getting about 3.5mbit) and there is no alternative to basic ADSL available, my exchange is upgraded but no sign of the cabs round here being done (not even sure which is mine, there is nothing immediately close by). I suppose one worry is whether they will even bother doing it at all.... maybe not their jurisdiction but to clear up the ambiguity I'd like to see e.g. OFCOM/govt putting forward a recommendation that all cabs on an excvhange are upgraded for FTTC within X time period of it being activated. So at least then you'd know you don't have to wait indefinitely with no knowledge of whether it will or won't happen.... maybe up to 12 months or whatever.

In some senses, they may want to upgrade every cab but factors beyond their control prevent them. E.g. Planning permission, residents opposition etc.
My cabinet is in a garden behind the corner shop. I can't see it getting done if they do the area, certainly not without some ball ache. In this instance I wouldn't begrude Openreach looking at the job and saying "not worth the hassle for the gains" and skipping it.
On the other end of the scale, they may want to do a cabinet but have had a negative response from residents, so just skip it to keep everyone "happy".
Then of course, there's the idiotic planning laws that could stop things dead.

I've just walked past my cabinet which was only installed a couple of weeks ago and it sounds like its live as I can hear a very subtle fan noise akin to a PC on idle but the BT checker still comes back with available before 30th June.
I'm moving to a new place in London next week and have looked and BT provide the fastest connection for my new flat at 76Mbs with their Infinity2.
Downside is their package is for 18months only - which is a real pain as I expect only to be there for 12 months - not the full 18 months.
Do you think BT could be flexible for this? Especially since if I couldn't get infinity I wouldn't otherwise be going for BT. Does anyone know their contract break fees? Do I have to use their home hub thing - or can I use my own router?
Also, are BT a good BB supplier in London? I'll mostly be using it for Xbox Live and movie streaming - I don't generally use P2P, but the girlfriend is a bit of an addict so kinda expect she will be.
Any suggestions for alternatives should BT be a no go?

I've used that checker before and it came back with "Accepting Orders" but when I rang BT they said it wasn't available yet on my phone number and on closer reading that site only checks your exchange. Not your actual cabinet.

Shows my exchange (north carlton) as coming soon for FTTC, however i have not seen one of the new cabinets anywhere in the village, there is one of these new cabinets literally next to my girlfriends parents house in Mansfield Wood house, they will be able to get an awesome connection there i bet.

If you move while in contract they'll set you up in the new place. So long as you make sure when you move again it's to somewhere that gets infinity you'll be fine

My job is likely taking me to one of those two within the next year, which is why I really don't want 18 months 
I've just looked at Virgin though, and it seems their contract is 12 months - so I guess it's gonna have to be them!

I just got Infinity2 installed, wired I get ~75Mbps download, however wirelessly via an Atheros AR9285 (802.11n) card I max out at around 35Mbps. Is there anything I can do to improve the wireless speed, would using a different/better router improve it?
