What is the Point of Veganism?

It's not about death, it's about the conditions with which they are kept in to produce milk. Cows are pumped with hormones to keep them lactating.

Buy Yeo Valley or other organic milk, conscience clear.

I don't get "veganism" you can buy dairy products from high animal welfare companys so thats a non issue.

Funniest thing I have ever heard regarding vegans is one putting her cat (an obligate carnivore) on a vegan diet using 'vegan' cat food.

Now THAT is cruelty to animals

Was on a AA flight to the states last year and when the food came round my vegi friend asked where his veterinarian food was to which the flight attendant pointed to the mash in his sausage and mash dish and told him it was there.

Mate = stunned. Me = crying with laughter

Im sure if we were stateside my friend could have sue'd them

It's nuts, how can any sane person object to a carnivorous animal being carnivorous? It's pretty bad that vegan catfood is sold though too. That cat must be in a right state, either that or the moment it gets outside it finds and eats the closest mouse or bird or something.

There was a family who forced their new born baby on to a vegan diet and the baby ended up dying horribly from malnutrition.

Ive always found the vege food on flights to be better than the normal rubbish, I've had people next to me ask for what I had, lols when told no as you have to request a veg meal

Vegetarians are just as pathetic as vegans, we have evolved eating meat and now all of a sudden people become wet and pedantic and decide not to eat meat.

We have eaten meat for 1000s of years, it was proven that eating read meat aided in evolving.

Also, why do they say meat is bad and then say eating fish is fine, flippin hypocrites :p

Maybe because non farmed WILD free range fish have lived a natural life without prolonged pain and suffering

You wanna know who the real hypocrites are? The meat eaters who sit down at the dinner table after hugging/playing and generally receiving love and effection from their cats/dogs/pets..etc who then have no problem munching down on some cheap-ass tesco chicken thats whole existence has been one painfull, cruel and inhumane process

Humanely killing organic/free range meat is not cruel and it's utterly unfair to say people that consume this have no respect for animals, however cheap-meat is fundamentally cruel and unacceptable in this day and age, sadly lots of meat eaters simply don't care enough and would rather save a few quid then spare a sentient creature significant pain and suffering!

I love the taste of meat but simply cannot afford free range/organic and I'm not selfish enough to think my pleasure or bank balance is more important than the pain and suffering of another highly evolved creature!

I am ever so grateful and thankful that I am selfish enough. :D

That said, I don't buy super-cheap meat, more so do to it being poor quality rather than because of animal welfare. I only eat British pork that, as Dutch and Danish apparently have pretty bad welfare standards AND the meat is noticeably worse quality.

I wish I had the willpower to be vegetarian, I think it's a great idea. I just don't have it in me.

We shouldn't be killing animals imho if we can help it.

The worst though are people who call themselves vegetarians but that they also eat fish. These people come straight from hell.

You mean pescatarians, most of which are fine from my experience.

If it's because you don't like the taste then fair enough but it's when they do it for 'Moral' reasons yet still eat fish they're taking the ****.

Depends on the fish, surely? If they only eat line caught, low volume stuff rather than farmed fish then surely there's no moral issue with regards to conditions.

I'd be slightly concerned about long term ingestion of heavy metals tbh.

Only an issue with large fish high up the food chain (Tuna, Bass, Shark). Most of 'em you'd need to eat a LOT to have any effect.

Soy beans gram for gram have more protein than meat iirc

Not really, more fat and carbohydrate and are a source of estrogen (although, much like the mercury in most fish it's not a big deal).

100g Chicken breast has about 116cals, 22g protein and 3g fat. 100g fresh soya beans has 141cals, 12g protein and 6g fat.

Indeed as does Quorn, a big lol at people who think a meat diet is healthier than a vegetarian or pescaterian one!

Soy doesn't, unless you're talking about dried beans, which is hugely more calorie dense than any meat at around 600cals per 100g.

Note: I'm not even remotely vegetarian, but unless they're the vocal sort about it I don't really see the problem. Their choice.

This really.... Independent British farms have some of the highest quality of produce in the world.

I am ever so grateful and thankful that I am selfish enough. :D

Trouble is, there is a huge amount of produce shipped into the country and sold on the shelves and marked as "produced in Britain" or " packaged in Britain" or display the little red tractor which means "British Standard" but are a complete joke as the standards don't even come close.

These tend to come from poorer countries where standards are lower, banned drugs are used (wormers, hormones etc) and slaughter houses have incredibly poor conditions.

If that is the case, the faux British pork from Sainsburys is still nicer than their Dutch/Danish varieties.

People can eat/not eat whatever they want, no-one here has a right to tell people otherwise.

However, the moment you get all militant about your lifestyle, looking down on others because they choose to eat/not eat animals, like you're the second coming of christ or something, then we have a problem.

I actually don't, I know what a pescatarian is, I'm talking about the ones who actually say "I am a vegetarian" but they eat fish. You know, as in the ones who don't actually know what they're talking about to the point of them not actually knowing what a pescatarian is. Some of them even act like "fish" isn't a type of meat, which is just mind blowing.

People put way too much emphasis on calories and fat, especially when it's good nutritional food. Dietary fat is good, very good in fact as long as it's none of that hydrogenated ****.

Note: I'm not even remotely vegetarian, but unless they're the vocal sort about it I don't really see the problem. Their choice.

That's generally the complaint though, the vocal ones can be relentless and usually have absolutely no idea what they're even talking about.

Sorry should have made it clearer that I meant roasted edememe beans which are obviously far lighter having been roasted. 100g will give you

Calories 471
Fat 25.4g
Carbs 33.55g
Protein 35.22g

But then I guess if you dried the chicken out as well.....:p either way they taste better than chicken does :D
