*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

I'm not sure what to do.

Wait it out, if it is the thin frame thing it will get sorted by a frame redesign or a stronger heat proof glue/bond on the tape, swapping now is insane... you know doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome, never works.

This. I'm going to miss having my Nexus 7, but I'm reluctantly going to wait and see if the QC/design flaws get fixed.

I know that supposed to fix it

What can you use to clamp it though ?

2 thick elastic bands around the frame with a large eraser pushed under the bands above the raise/thin part of the frame.

Imo the reason some don't have it is down to how well the bond in question goes flush into the right angle of the frame maximising the surface area or not touching all of the available frame in the bad ones.

It does seem like a design flaw for sure. Not sure why mine has never displayed any of the symptoms though, it's flush all the way around and has been since the day I got it. Lucky I guess.

I know that supposed to fix it but I shouldn't have to do things like this tbh.

I rang tesco and they're sending a replacement to store tomorrow, they were superb and the guy said most of the returns he processed on the n7 were for lifted screens.

He said to check the device before I swap it tomorrow. :-)

get a vice grip or something and use a towel either side to prevent it marking

I thought that wasn't the issue and still comes back? The issue is the frame is smaller over that area and the glue won't hold.

Over that area it is yes which is why it pushes up in the middle at first and then gets worse over time - the foam is pushing it away. Mine is completely flush now and there is nothing pushing the screen away from the frame so the natural fit of the screen is against the glue. I can't see any reason it will lift in the future now having examined it closely.

Pop the back off and take a look, it literally takes seconds.

Pull the back off with a credit card and remove the sticky back foam tape that is pushing the screen away from the frame like I did? It probably will get worse if you don't, the screen is having pressure placed on it from behind which is why it's being pushed up. When the tablet gets hot it will mean the remaining glue is likely to fail.

But what was the sponge there for in the first place? I don't want to remove it and then the thing catch fire or something!

I'd be interested to know what the sponge is like on devices that are supposedly a-ok.

The sponge is there so you don't press too hard on the screen at that point and crack it which you'd have to be pretty heavy handed to do. The other problem is that the sponge doesn't even work at that job as has been demonstrated by people cracking their screens pushing at the exact point the sponge is, it compresses enough to be ineffective but at the same time is spongey enough to push the screen away from the glue. It's basically a bit of fail sponge.

Anyone recommend Doggcatcher on the N7 ?
Was thinking of maybe buying it to handle podcasts.

It's excellent yes, especially if you subscribe to paid podcasts and need to use a username/password. My only gripes are that you can't play a podcast while it's downloading unlike on Google Listen and also it doesn't work with LBC 97.3FM premium podcasts for some reason - it doesn't like the file type even though they are MP3s.

Well I just picked mine up from Tesco.

Their is very minimal screen lift, can't really tell at all. Their doesn't appear to be any dead pixels however the colours do look a little washed out. Not sure why that is.

See, you think it's fine, so you invent ANOTHER issue. :p

I'm most concerned that this is a thread full of people picking him up on his apparent OCD (I agree with him completely, for what it's worth) but not one person has mentioned his misuse of 'there/their!'

If you're going to slate someone, at least get their English right, too!

:D

Think I'll pick it up, wasn't really feeling beyondpod.

I watched the transformers movie and my screen lifted even more by quite a bit, but only the bottom left side.

I'm clamping it now while looping the movie... Will give it a bit.
