OcUK TrackDay: Donnington 22nd August - £135!

As far as comments are concerned, it was an epic way to spend an evening and we certainly got lucky with the weather, it was gorgeous!

Can't believe Gibbo got black flagged for noise on the first outing (fortunately it happened on our cooldown lap so track time wasn't cut short), but there were certainly louder cars on track (not to mention the occasional 737 overhead ).

Nath's spin was superb to watch (and hear!), but the leak from the diff-oil cooler was a bit of a downer (as was spending time on the floor under his car trying to work out where it was coming from!), but the car went well and was far less twitchy than anyone expected it to be.

I'll have to drag the Leon out for the next one, can't stand not being out on track

Looks very busy on track. Was this down to poor distribution and every being at the same spot on the track at the same time, instead of spread out?

Also the pit lane exit manners seem poor too. Was this managed, or left down to driver decision?

Other than that it looks epic, and I'll hopefully come to the next one.

The A6 not going on the track then? ;)

I guess I should have known seeing as it had a ring sticker. :o

It won't be going on track here, I'm never making the mistake of taking my daily driver on track!

The Leon will go on track again, or I'll be purchasing something else.

With the exception of a couple of utter idiots (I'm looking at you S2000 driver and Megane R26 driver), the track etiquette was great, and the field was quite split up. As for pit exit, this was what I'd call "semi managed". There was a couple of marshals at the exit of the pit lane not allowing drivers out during heavy traffic, however the onus was left to the driver to decide if it is safe to join the track or not (and there were a couple of occasions where the drivers clearly didn't look, mainly the "racing" Saxo drivers).

Excellent photos!

What a fantastic day! This was the first time I'd used R888s, I can see what all the fuss is about, they're superb!

Loads of fun, and great to see the OCUK regulars again!

Not so sure about the etiquette tbh, the S2000 was out for what appeared to be a sunday drive - I don't think it hit Vtec y0! once on track :(

Also the saxo drivers were semi-reluctant to let people pass, and the person who hired car no. 10 was oblivious to the train of traffic behind him.

It was great fun playing with paz and clarkey too, all three of us in E36s, all with different setups/rubber.

Clarkey is a lunatic, oversteer is his middle name. I shall get the videos up later, but there are some great shots of him getting a bit wild on track.

Also got a video of me chasing down nath :D

Was great fun, truly impressed with how the 911 is going now, it was so much quicker than the 996 GT3, so much so he came for a chat, haha. I was marginally gaining on the 997 GT3 and I know the guy is a track veteran, but in fairness I was pushing hard and able to brake later due to ceramics, but I was approaching my skill limit and feel he still probably had more to give. But overall the new GEO has made a great difference, think my best lap was a smidge over 1:23s :)

Next mod to go faster would be set of track wheels with 305 rear section and 245 front section CUP tyres and put the front camber to -3 degrees and set the rear bar one notch stiffer. Am very impressed though with how the car is going for what is still on road tyres. :)

lol good find man, living up to the stereotype again! I wonder what her profession is...

Well I don't really car how slow she goes, she's paid up just like the rest of us. What I do take issue with is staying on line at 50mph throughout the whole lap. I even have this on video.

VTECs not kicked in y0!

some pics, kinda of just my car though lol

Should have slapped a 'WOMAN! KNOW YOUR LIMITS!' sticker on her bumper

That's the problem, she was well aware of them.

It may have helped if someone got one of the pit boards with 'kitchen next lap' on it and held it out on the grid straight :D

It wasn't just that, even when she did move off line she utterly refused to either indicate or hand-gesture that she was OK for you to pass. Downright dangerous IMO.

I tried cutting and uploading some video but the quality is abysmal, so for now I'll put some teaser screen caps up.

Can't imagine why my rear tyres look a bit degraded :p
