sorry for been a big noob,
But is this pic shopped? The only reason why I ask is that I'm just getting into the swing of photography and I haven't taken a pic no where near as good as this, but like I say I am a noob and can't take a pic for toffee,

So what I'm actually asking is it possible to take a pic this good with just a camera?
And if this pic is taken without photoshop someone please teach me!

Just need a lens that can do nice sharp close ups which macro lenses are awesome at and something that doesn't absorb water so you can spray some onto it or wait till it has rained (morning dew will do as well)

Random shot I took at a wedding last night with my girlfriends nikon J1 camera (as I left mine at home, stupidly)

Candlelight by jjohnson2012, on Flickr

Was a traditional persian style wedding and the candles where part of a centre piece full of symbolism.

I got lucky again, it rained where and when I wasn't outside or at the place I was at.

Whilst I was here, back at the venue it chucked it down.

Nice Raymond :)

With the sun coming in an out between the storm clouds I managed to blow the highlights which is really annoying :(

The first one though, did you miss the focus or have you used noise reduction? The eyes are soft, but the processing (and me being tired) is leaving me undecided on if the focus is the nose, not the eyes, or NR has softened the eyes. Or maybe both.

The lips or nose have been focused on, it looks like This is because his camera is not up to the job, rather than a matter of technique. Obviously he shoots Canon because Nikon's would never muck up like this. ;)

Nah, look at the DoF, it's ridiculously shallow, half of his face isn't in focus. He'll have just moved, or the subject will have moved between focus lock and the shutter going. It's always worth taking two extras for frames like this just to make sure you don't have to get rid of what would have been an awesome photo, because of a focusing error. The eyes look really cloudy without that sharpness to them which looks a bit weird to me

Nice contrast in them though :)

Nah I don't use NR. Dof is literally only mm, less of the length of a short eyelash.

I think you need to focus more on the 'art', rather than what brand camera people are using. It'l help with the camera envy. ;)

No it's not shopped.
Cropped a little but nothing else.

It's just some rain on a plant next to a pond.
I took a lot more that day too

It's a Canon 550D with a 100mm macro lens. I'm no expert at all. I shoot a lot and bin a lot!

Half the skill is in 'seeing' the shot. It's easy to get distracted by one thing and miss all the other things around it that are better pictures. I've still got an awful lot to learn in that respect.

So much want!

Edit*

A toast, to my 40D, bought in 2008 and very shortly going to its new owner. May it continue shooting on!

It was my Nephews wedding on Saturday so i took my D90 and used a Nikkor 18-70 f3.5-4.5G with an SB900 flash and took a few shots.
There was a lot of people taking photos so the subjects eyes were in all directions.
