Checked my emails. Order placed 22nd and I received my voucher on the 15th here is a cached copy of the terms:

I did pretty well as I also used a 20% code that was also valid :p

Hummmm! The terms say before 30th Sept. I ordered mine on the 30th, but I swear the site stated before midnight on the 30th. I swear it did! I remember checking before placing the order. :(

Experiencing the first problems with my magicshine clone ebay light.

Either the battery is knackered, the charger is knackered, or something else.

Plugged it in to charge last night.....then this morning.....nothing. Not even the green light on the back comes on (which comes on as sson as you connect the battery).

Those who have this light.....when does the green light on the charger come on? When it's connected? When it's full?

I'll ask one of our electrical engineers at work to have a look at it today and report back :)

The diagnosis:

The battery pack is dead. The cells themselves seem fine, but the PCB circuit seems dead. So whether it's a problem with the charger I'm not sure. I'll bring that in on Monday for them to check too.

My solution is to buy a RC model car battery, 7.4V Li-ion battery pack. Not sure how many mA I need yet.

Our guys worked out that on full, it should last roughly an hour for every 1000mA, and the dim setting is a third of the power...so will last 3x as long for the same mA.

You get what you pay for!!

Not great service! I would email them on ebay as they should send you a replacement. They are sending me one because I broke the velcro strap that holds the battery pack on.

Obviously knew what he did but decided to shout expletives at me. Well it was raining and just up a head there are some nearby roadworks which leaves the cycle path covered in mud. Still only using an ass-saver I wait until we hit the mud put the boot down drop in front of him and all I heard was ****** **** *** turned around and he had a face full of mud at which I smiled repeated his first expletive and put the boot down again.

Haha excellent :D

Where is this Strava signature site thingy?

When you work looked at the pack could they see if the batteries were protected etc?

I like the sounds of running a different pack - i used to be into RC but stopped when we had kids so before it all went li-ion/li-po. Are the chargers and batteries safe/protected??

Tbh, I would have no idea....I'm very much out of my depth regarding these sort of things!

I've emailed the ebayer to see if they'll send a replacement anyway. No harm in trying, even if that lasts another week lol!

Anyone looking for a new light?

Fenix have just released their new light and it looks brilliant.

Great beam pattern, great burn time and great power. If I wasn't already packing two Exposures then I'd be looking at one of theses over a Magicshine any day of the week.

That does look good, i think im gonna bin my magic shine clone and get a Philips - may look at this one too, are Fenix a god brand and any knowledge of their batteries??

The only difference between the fenix and the £30 Magicshine clones is build quality, warranty, etc (and possibly beam pattern as well).
In terms of power, they both have the same emitter and use the same batteries, so power/run time/etc will all be pretty much the same.

Beam pattern is the key here, the fenix is properly dipped and makes the most effective use of the available light rather than wasting it.

As my Mrs will testify; it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it.

Beam pattern is the most important part - the Philips is a vastly better light with far less power with run time being its big drawback.

Im not comfortable running my MS clone as its so dazzling to oncoming cars/bikes and on some of the roads i ride home on i don't want to be dazzling people when they come round a corner at 60 with me on the opposite carriageway!!!

I'm also not keen on the batteries blowing up or burning the house down!!!

That's not what she told me! ;)

I'm so glad I got a bike that can fit chunky tyres. I feel a bit anxious going over some slippery patches or wet leaves with my 32mm tyres. I can't imagine balancing my portly frame on 23's...

Looking to buy a GPS unit to integrate with Strava, as I'm sick of the Android app randomly sapping all my phones power, sometimes I can do 30 miles and use 20% power, other times I do 10 miles and it flattens my battery!

Torn between the Garmin Edge 200 or the Bryton Rider 35/40E, both of which come in at around £105 at the minute :-

Garmin on sale at the rainforest for £104
Bryton 40E- http://www.fudgescyclestore.com/index.php?p=202145
Bryton 35E - http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/training/training-aids/gps-systems/bryton-rider-35e-gps.html

The Bryton almost seems too good to be true, £50 off and a free HRM, never used Fudges Cycles before either, but I can pay with PayPal, so I'm covered just in case!

Any comments or other suggestions please?
