Dark Soul's: Prepare to Die Edition (PC)

Well, I'm not that experienced with the game myself, as I only started playing late last night, but ask away if you need any help. :)

I'll be around later (going to have some nosh now).

I'm at the Undead Burg. At some point, I noticed I had ten estus flasks, where as normally I only have five. I'm assuming I unwittingly activated something; how do I get more of them?

Also, can you sell items to traders?

Whenever you reach a new area and activate a new bonfire, you need to "kindle" it in order to obtain more estus flasks.

I guess that's what I must have done? That means I changed form, and in this state I can possibly be invaded? :)

Thanks.

You can only kindle if you are in human form (able to be invaded), However the fire at firelink shrine always gives 10 flasks, If you last rested there then you will have 10 flasks

If you are hollow reverse humanity at bonfire and then kindle it to get 10 estus flasks. You will need 2 humanity to do that. You can kindle bonfire later on upto 20 estus flasks. You can also improve your estus flask later on several times so it heals more each time.

Thanks for the tips. :)

Is there any easy way to get a hold of curses to fight the ghosts in blight town?

I had a few but needless to say I died to them a few times now I have zilch ;p

Merchant in the aqueduct right near Firelink Shrine, all the way down at the opposite end to the Giant Rat near the shortcut to the Depths.

Last night..err..very early this morning.. I decided it would be a good idea to kill that Lightning Demon that blocks the way to the Trees bit as I'm getting horrific FPS slow-down from his bolts which have managed to get me killed several times from getting stuck on obstacles and not being able to free myself in the 3fps confusion that follows... GG whoever said it runs smooth on AMD GPU because it sure doesn't like my 7970

I got him down to 50% a few times with no problems then he would pick me up somehow with his lightning fork thing and slam me into the floor a few times which killed me every time, then...Don't read it if you don't want to make the fight trivially easy..

I remember I had 50+ bolts on a +5 Crossbow and couldn't believe how easy ranged attacking is in this, it made a complete travesty out of killing that demon :( So I then tried it on the Black Knight dude in the church (Was struggling on this guy due to not levelling up I think) and nailed him with ease the same way with some kiting. So now I've figured out all you need in this is a +bow, poison arrows and some kiting skills.

Once you get the parry/riposte timing and reinforced weapon everything is gravy, I'm finding the slowdown and choppy FPS more of a challenge so far :(

Getting my 'arris handed to me by the Taurus Demon; think I'll have to go back and buy some pine resin. There are some skills that I'm still practically useless at, such as kicking, jumping attacks and striking when jumping off the edge of a high platform, which would be useful against the Taurus Demon.

Out of interest, what do people think of swords v spears?

I assume you mean Transient Curses and New Londo Ruins.

You can buy a couple (limited) from the Female Undead Merchant, you can buy them from Ingward in New Londo, they also drop from ghosts.

There are a few on a corpse in a breakable pot on the way in to New Londo Ruins, it's just before you cross the first little wooden bridges after you enter the area from Firelink.

p.s Not sure hoe far you are but just to make sure, you shouldn't be going to New Londo until you have [a], beaten Sif and , obtained the Lordvessel. Without [a] you can't fight the boss and without you can't even get to it without killing an NPC.

Well swords make up like 50% of all weapons in the game, whereas there are about 10 spears in total.

The large majority of small swords are useless, there are exceptions such as Quelaags and 1 or 2 Katana and Rapiers, however most of those are for very specific PvP builds. However large swords are another matter, most of the Great and Ultra swords are worth using and depend on your move set preference.

Spears however are a very small subset of weapons and most of them are not worth touching, there is nearly always a better option in another weapon type, often many different types. I personally dislike spears as they are a largely defensive weapon which lend themselves to passivity, they can also make you fairly immobile.

Now there are exceptions, chances are you will use the Lightning Spear you get in Sens for a while as it is very good at that point, also at the start of the game the ability to attack from behind a shield is very valuable. However later on in the game when you have chosen a stat to level spears kind of drop off the radar compared to other weapon types.

Thanks. I suppose the main redeeming feature of the spear is the reach it has; I might stick to my broadsword for now. :)

I'd recommend trying out the longsword. It does decent damage and it has a great moveset in my opinion. Another option would be the Claymore which you can get by following the bit below. It's just after the Taurus Demon which is why it's in spoiler tags :p.

Shoot the red drake on the bridge with an arrow to which he should jump down onto the bridge at which point you can run past him where you'll find a bonfire. Rest at the bonfire (careful not to get killed by the drake turning around and breathing fire at you) and the drake will be gone at which point you can pick up the items on the bridge.

Thanks, Moothead2. :)

As it happens, I've got a longsword. I'll give that a whirl.

Atm, to get my stats up a bit, I've been thorough in my approach to the Undead Burg, so taking my time and trying to learn new skills on easier enemies does seem to be slowly paying off.
