January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

RA's intent on dumping the senior players. He tried to use AVB to do the dirty work and it backfired in spectacular fashion and now he's trying to use Benitez to do the same thing. Once they've gone and the fans have turned on the manager RA will just sack him and bring in someone young and fresh to carry out his commands.

At least we know it wasn't AVB dropping the senior players to stamp his authority on the squad like some people claimed last year :o

I'd take Lampard at United in a shot, we'll need some experience should both Scholes and Giggs retire in the summer.

I'd take Lampard too. Might rub off on Gerrard. Utterly bizarre attitude from Chelsea. I'd imagine any fan would have him at their club.

You know what happened the last time Everton wanted CL football, UEFA and the FA had to fiddle the rules to stop the embarrassment

Well UEFA got embarassed in 2012 (as well as the holders of their premier competition) , so it aint all bad :D

Mancini quoted in the Guardian "......and this is not a club that throws its capital through the window."

Surely thats sig worthy lol

Bothroyd has been recalled by Queens Park Rangers.

Happs. Totes Happs.

More desperate than picking up a bird who as already thrown up her kebab...

Gives everyone facing Ipswich a fighting chance for a couple of weeks till he ends up going back there at the end of the window after a. being found out as not a prem striker, b. found out no one at qpr cares enough to play him in and c. takes a huge wage cut to not ruin his career....

Signing Lampard is a massive risk for any club, he'll be 35 before next season and his form could fall off a cliff at any point. He'll want huge wages and a 2 year plus deal. How many midfielders play well beyond 35? I can only think of a handful.

People painting it as a no-brainer to sign him are completely overlooking the risks.

True.

I could see a QPR type club being a good move for him where can be a leader and push things on for them, any too club signing him would be a strange one. I would be keeping him at Chelski for what he has done there and he can still perform at times, but clearly RA had made up his mind.

Same rumours are stating that SAF is looking at Cashley aswell, and since PSG have come out and denied any contact, this is concerning as well

I have nothing against Lamps (apart from the fact that he is a Blue at heart and his age), but both these signings would be a huge mistake for Utd if they happened imo, but signing Cashley would really hurt and I really hope the club isnt seriously considering him

I agree with QPR (if they could afford his wage demands of course), but the thing to consider is that they are also the kind of team that would potentially rely on him TOO much , ie he would be required to play every single game - which would therefore exasperate any frailties his aging body has , like his knees. A little bit of a catch 22

Maybe a club like Everton, who are on the fringes of the top 4 and with FL's qualities could give them the final push into CL positions in the big games without any transfer fee being required, yet be rested for the day to day grind of the EPL

Anyone know if that agent that was on Sky Sports News yesterday is Demba Ba's agent? I think he's the little parasite who was on a long time ago arguing it was "irrelevant" if he was paid £6M+ to get Terry to move to Man City. I've nothing against Demba Ba, if these rumours about his agents are even partially true I really hoping he fails to get a move because of them then sacks them so that they get nothing.

Indeed, I think some people are also forgetting that Lampard is also one of the trio allegedly responsible for getting a string of managers sacked inc. being very publicly against AVB (I think Lampard crossed a line then that he shouldn't.) It may be that RA and the club heirarchy have had enough and want less player influence on how the club is run, regardless of any deals.

FFP is a reality as well, so if Lampard really wants to stay and is willing to sign a 1yr deal with a realistic pay cut then I would sign him up, but 2yr deal at or near his current wages doesn't make any sense. I hear some fans saying how can the club treat him this way after everything he's done, but hasn't he had his fair reward? a lot of titles and exceptional pay throughout the RA era.

Lol at selling De gea.

if we do sell him, then even if we get our money back it will still be one of the worst ever signings we have made.

The whole point of buying a young keeper is to develop them. You put up with the mistakes they make and de gea has been quite culpable. If we sell him on before he is even a good, consistent keeper then it will just be epic fail all over it. Total waste of 2 years.

Well we wouldn't give him a 2 year deal, we'd give him a 1 year contract like we do all our players over 30, I doubt we'd pay him massive wages either (he'd probably be put on a parity with what Scholes and Giggs are earning atm). If he agreed to those terms (and lets face it why wouldn't he) then I do think it's a no-brainer

Yes because Rafa came in and was forced to arbitrarily pick him out of a crowd, tell him to never come to first team training, refuse to let him go to the xmas party and throw him out of the club?

Oh wait, no, if the owner wants rid of old players, fine, a manager can do that in any of hundreds of ways.... coming in and pointing at two players and saying for all intents and purposes "I hate you, get out of my sight, I never want to see you again" was AVB's choice, its one of the many things that lost him the squad completely and was what he actually did.

I didn't and I'm not sure anyone else claimed he dropped players to stamp his authority, I claimed he made a show of a public execution of these players to stamp his authority, and it completely backfired on him.

Did RDM not let Drogba leave peacefully, quietly, without a massive uproar for not renewing his contract? Did the players turn on him for not persuading him to stay? Could AVB not have simply sold Alex and Anelka without being the big man and acting like a complete ****?

Not renewing the contract of a player who is 34, and forcing out players aged 30-32 in the most destructive way possible is not even remotely comparable.
