I'm surprised that so much Unionism / Loyalism still exists in Ulster. Sometimes I wonder if Westminster pays English people to go over and pretend to care to de-grease the Republican machine.

^ Same.
Anyway, quite an ugly side to British Nationalism and identity if you ask me. 60 police officers injured? One attempted murder? £7m policing bill for the protests and riots?
They need to calm down, frankly, and show their disdain at the ballot box next time and protest peacefully in the mean time. It's not hard.
They did show their disdain at the ballot box by electing Alliance and feel the Alliance party have screwed them, hence why Alliance offices were attacked at the start of the trouble.
Why? It's been part of the UK for hundreds of years. Indeed the entire island of Ireland was under British rule until the 1920s and the war of independence.
They don't need to.
What I don't understand is why people have such a problem with Northern Irish people wanting to remain part of Britain, but none with Falkland islanders wanting to remain part of Britain. If the war of independence had happened as recently as the Falklands war, would there be more support for those who wished to remain British in Northern Ireland?
That is no excuse.
I re-ittirate, they need to show their disdain about this situation at the next ballot box and protest peacefully in the meantime.
As someone said, we can take their fleg, but never their DLA.
Unfortunately true, on both sides, we fund their lack of education and their lack of requirement to do anything, by actively sponsoring it.
Riots are not just the domain of the Northern Irish, London knows how to put on a show as well.
They can take our fleg, but they'll never take our DLA.

Should just give them their country back. Its not like the UK Supporters will be blowing up small parts of England if it all goes sound.
It was a stupid decision to change the flying of the flag really, nothing was ever really going to change by doing it apart from potential mass unrest, the whole sorry situation is probably EU sponsored they'd love to see our union fall apart so they can swallow us up.
Yet there are only still walls because the people living on either side can't bloody behave themselves. Constant *** for tat, "It wasn't us who started it", "We didn't throw nothing", "Some big boys did it and ran away".
In the grand scheme of things, they're a minority. There will be no return to the days of the Troubles, just a bunch of mindless ****holes attacking police and wrecking their own communities because they feel they have an excuse. The same idiots are out any time they feel something, however trivial, antagonises them -- whether that be the removal of a mural, a wayward march, or someone in a Celtic top giving them the finger.
SAVE OUR FLEGGGGGG!

NI does have twice as many disabled people per 1000 than GB. And we thought leper colonies had ceased to exist.
Someone else said SF had kicked this off, they didnt, it was the Alliance Party, who are the only non-sectarian party we have.
pingwing said:What? Protestants are up to no good because they want to display how much they are part of the UK...
The "British" identity exists in NI because of a fear that the UK will just tell them to go away one day and then the Catholics will have their revenge (nasty over simplification but its the basic fear).
Thats a strange reaction. I stated we should have originally gave them back because the protestants probably would have put up less of a fight. I didn't take a side. Hopefully over the longer term religion will die, because thats a crappy reason to be fighting over anyway.
Not really, its pretty pointless flying any flag all day every day when it openly annoys half the population.
