System Shock 2 to come to GOG

Aw, it's a pity they couldn't bundle the texture and model overhauls with it, but I'll probably still buy it anyway. I only ever finished a playthrough as navy, which I believe was the easiest due the the high repair skills.

Yeah. Navy generally gave you higher hack, maintenance and potentially standard weapons skill. That combination made the game so much easier (and to anyone new I would highly recommend those as your career choices at the start) :)

Who says it wont work in Windows 7?

I've been playing the original big box version of this for a few weeks now and it runs absolutely fine on my system at 2560 x 1440.

One of the best games ever made imo.

Yes :D, so the community voting worked, finally! Was just thinking about having another go soon, with my old CD copy. Price doesn't much matter, I'm buying this tomorrow

Looking forward to trying the new additions since I last played, such as that new Dark Engine patch and the hi-res space textures...

System Shock 2 >>> BioShock/Deadspace.

This is nothing short of amazing. Not just because so many will get access to the game but because of the implications around sorting out the IP/Trademark situation.

This could lay the groundwork for System Shock 3!

SS2 is the only game I know of that was put up against Deux Ex regularly for the best game ever award.

I really hope that they've done a good job with this.

It would be nice to have to have the cut scenes / videos back again (had to disable these to make the original run on Win 7)

It's not an "easy" game by any stretch - in fact it can be quite frustrating. But once you're into it. Well. You can kiss your life goodbye basically.

Where you read its coming steam?

I've not got the link to hand right now but I'll see if I can dig it up later.

To be honest, with the right fixes everything worked perfectly on Win7. Even more so since the 2.4 community patch. I don't think GOG really need to do much to 'fix' this at all :)

Denada.
TBH I gave up trying to get the cut scenes to work and was just grateful the game ran at all.
Hopefully everything will be sorted in this release.

This is most excellent news.

I'm going to crank it up with mods and sit in a darkened room until I'm so terrified and despairing at the fate of humanity that I can barely speak.

Yeah,

Initially I found it difficult to get them to work but managed to fix it afterwards.

It works flawlessly under Windows 7 now.
