System Shock 2 to come to GOG

Just bought this - again - more out of respect for what GOG are doing than anything else really.

So I deleted the original files and installed the gog version but all the controls are Fubar now? Had to re - bind ALL the keys ? Weapons slots all unbound?

Not sure if that's across the board but twas a bit annoying.

Good thing is that Mod Manager still works though. Took one look at the vanilla game and had to reinstall STFU .... I like to read things on telephone kiosks and monitor screens . Not dots and dashes. Makes a big difference that mod imo

Bit of a bummer that you can't grab the basket ball anymore though. Why did they disable that?

Yup, running perfectly on Windows 8 x64 here. Although I've had a crash when I reloaded a gun - however nothing since.

I've just downloaded the mods as suggested above and using SS2 Mod Manager to activate them.

Epic game! Made me so scared in some parts back in the day (1998?) I remember having to go back down to the engineering deck for some reason and I actually dreaded it! :D

I also completed it with 2 friends on a coop LAN and that was amazing! (Each went 100% down each skill path - so we had to work together a lot - much better than coop games even today)

Goddamit. I'll have to buy this again.

It was a much much better game than the original, it's a toss-up between this and Torment as to which is the best PC game of all time.

I paid £20 for a second hand copy a few years ago, which I don't think was that bad a price, especially when I factor in how much enjoyment it's given me.

Though, yeah...the value of mine as well...:D

Hi folks,

I played this game back in the day and loved it! I have just picked it up again on gog.com and will be giving it a bash on Sunday.

I see a few recommendations for mods:

SHTUP
Rebirth Complimented (is this the same as Rebirth 2?)
Straylight (does this change the gameplay much?)

Any more recommendations? :)

I also see a mention of a mod manager, is there one in particular that I should be using? Is SS Tool 4.8 necessary?

Thank you in advance for any guidance, I would really appreciate it.

Has anyone got some screenies of their game modded? Would love to see some!

Straylight/ADaOB fixes a lot of balance issues in game and will make it a lot more difficult for you if you're used to "get standard weapons to 6 and lay waste with the assault rifle" tactics :p Personally if you are going for that I would consider getting SecMod instead. It incorporates all the fixes from ADaOB but also adds in some new weapons/items and crafting. You can also repair turrets :p

Rebirth Complimented may be an out of date term now. Basically it was Rebirth with the rumbler model included and with some changes to the cyborg midwife to make it look less like a porn model and more like the original concept. I believe monkeys may have been overhauled a little too, but my memory is a little foggy on that.

SS2Tool probably isn't absolutely needed but it can make your life easier if you're planning on incorporating mods. For all of these tools (SS2Tool, ModManager, etc) I would check the strangebedfellows forums to ensure that the tools work okay with the new GOG version of SS2.

There are a few other mods you could play with - SHMUP is basically similar to SHTUP but for the in game music. Aside from that I wouldn't play with other things that much just yet. There are full new campaigns to play with eventually :)

edit: Rebirth 02 is basically the same as the complimented version. Go for 02 :)
