Fuel up/down again

What happened in Jan 09?

It was the bottom of the oil crash that followed the record highs of almost $150 in mid 2008. It began falling from about September. The Labour government then used the period of time between this crash and 2010 to add almost 10p a litre of duty onto fuel whilst everyone was too busy being pleased about cheap fuel to notice.

This week, BNSF Railway, one of the largest consumers of U.S. diesel fuel and a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, announced a natural gas pilot program for its fleet of locomotives. Observers and market participants say it could be the first step toward eroding the stranglehold oil and traditional gasoline has on cars, trucks and trains.

Just heard on the news that Asda & Sainsburys are dropping the price by around 4p a litre tomorrow. Price wars for the win. :D

So oil has slid almost $10 over the last few weeks and is almost back to pre Christmas prices. Petrol continues to rise. Some of this will be currency related but not all.

It usually takes far longer than a few weeks from when crude it bought to it being refined to petrol/diesel and sold.

Is the slide in crude prices for other non Brent crudes as well? Because it's fairly common for UK refineries to process crude from all over the world depending on what's cheap/available.

Not trying to justify petrol stations keeping prices high but there's often more to it than meets the eye.

Another Staffordshire heads up.....

After going upto the dizzy heights of 134.9 for unleaded, petrol at Morrisons in Leek, Staffordshire is down to 131.9 again this morning!! - got to love supermarket price wars!! A few miles up the road it's 141.9!!!

Just to clarify, this is down to Morrisons competing with a recently opened Sainsburys in my home town rather than today's announced "war" - its been going on for weeks here. :)

Sainsbury's has just announced from today they're cutting Petrol by 4p and Diesel by 3p. Is supermarket diesel lower grade than other filling stations or is that just a myth?

Ah got to love that 131.9 is coming over as an absolute bargain for fuel!

We're being taken the **** out of so badly that even a modest reduction in the now hideous cost of fuel these days makes it seem like a great thing.

It's not a price war at all. It's a form of Stockholm Syndrome is what it is.

Our local Sainsburys petrol station is closed for refurbishment and we have no ASDA so as a result Morrisons have hiked up their fuel price to cash in, its quite strange to see Shell the cheapest for fuel lol

The lowest in Hereford has been 139.9 for a couple of weeks now, BP is 141.9. I paid 137.9.

I want it to go down because my low fuel light has come on.
