Their marketing was abysmal. They went all out for the idiots with the docking stations with their dodgy little printers and it turns out that people are more than capable of connecting a cable to a computer and actually don't tend to print photos at home an awful lot. I know, the horror!

From such a luxurious position they threw it all away with a narrow-minded approach and poor products and tried to make money on docks that nobody few buy and ink cartridges for people who would only print a handful of photos so would never buy extra cartridges.

Frankly it's surprising they lasted as long as they did - I guess those licenses went some way to prolonging the agony.
 
I've had the HTC One a week and I want to return it. I am fed up.

It is going on eBay as soon as I order myself something to replace it.

So what don't I like about it? It is frustrating.

It looks amazing, it feels amazing and those speakers are outstanding but it has too many issues.

I have dead pixels, a non-responsive touch screen and the buttons work about half the time I press them.

It is a step down in physical performance than the One X which was superb.

Of course I may just have a dodgy unit and I am complaining to three to get it swapped out (unfortunately I can't swap it in store as no one has any) and if all those issues are gone then great but I don't think it is likely.

That looks like a faulty unit tbh. Dead pixels and faulty touch screen might be linked, I would exchange it it looks like a one off faulty unit.

Lol, that is all, you can clearly tell he has a vendetta against HTC/one by the way that article is written, either just a fanboy/hater or/and paid by the likes of apple/Samsung to write BS about competitors devices on social sites (article posted on xda the other day about this and it seems Samsung are pretty guilty of doing this)

Take what he says with a very large pinch of salt....

I have never used HTC phone, but heard much about HTC's poor finish on their phones. HTC One is seemingly no exception this time.

The issues are problems with the first batch, rushed and poor QC, nothing new especially with htc, it has been widely reported on XDA the problems etc. (of which most seem to be the buttons not responding and the gap) and I am sure that the issues will be fixed/improved with newer batches just like every new device (not just in the case of smartphones) that comes to the market (just like what happened with the one X and S), no phone/company are any different:

Do what stoosh did, return it, get your money and use some other spare device for the time being until newer stock comes in and then decide if you want to go with it again or not.

Wow. I'm no Shakespeare but that guys writing is awful, is that actually an article? He may have some valid points on things to check but it is put across so badly.

I don't see an issue with getting a 1 on iFixIt, after all if it's broken and a hassle to fix people will just claim on insurance and then it's HTCs problem? Plus if you haven't broke it and it's in warranty then it's faulty and again HTCs problem :p

Plus I thought the whole pyramid structure was clever engineering and is what allows the one to have the shape it does? Don't understand why that bothers him so much.
 
Has anyone ordered this on Orange from dialaphone and received the handset? If so, can they tell me if the phone comes unlocked?

I've managed to convince the wife to get this, means I'll get to use it as much as I want really. :D I'd got rid of her faulty iPhone 4 and shes on an old Nokia atm. Rather then pay the full wack on PAYG, I'm gonna go for the dialaphone offer which works out cheaper overall, it just seems silly to buy it on PAYG.

Assume he means the menu 3 dots you get that on some apps like app store appear in the top corners and on others appear above the HTC logo.
 
Yup, the nav. buttons is extremely stupid (my biggest and only annoyance with this device by far), why on earth didn't they just keep with the one S/X way :confused: (still confused as to why they didn't keep the similar design language as them either, they were pretty much perfect already, take the strong points from the one i.e. camera, flash etc. design/area and place it on the one S/X and you literally have the perfect design) As bad as Samsung's decisions to go from black to white backgrounds on a SAMOLED screen and back to froyo UI style!

Personally would have liked on screen buttons, extend the screen down where the buttons are currently and therefore on screen buttons wouldn't have used that much, if any extra screen space, not only would it be better functionally etc. but the device would have looked 10 times nicer when the screen is turned off.
 
Indeed, I really hope some of the rumours turn out to be true :cool:

and if that fails to impress overall, then roll on the nexus 5 in November/December :p :D

HTC really had the potential with the HO it could've been the phone to change their fortunes and this is no disrespect to anyone who has the HO on this forum.

There's far too many little niggles that seem to be holding this phone back, from lack of stock, build quality to camera issues. Granted all these things will be ironed out eventually and the HO will be a viable and great alternative but with the S4 looming over the horizon and the "X" phone there's other options to take into account and unfortunately at this moment in time the HO is no longer in my sights.
