Way back in 2010 I purchased a launch day GTX 480 for £480. That was £1 for every bit of the "480" name. By contrast the GTX 780 only costs 70p for each part of it's name. That's much better value.

IMO the 780 is not too expensive when compared to the former top dogs of their generation. GTX 480 and GTX 680 both launched North of £450. Even the 7970 was £400+ less than a year ago and all of these cards supply substantially less performance. The 780 appears to be a very good alternative compared to the 7990, GTX 690, and Titan.

It's also cheaper than any launch day iPhone.

Did you buy a GTX285 for £285 though Launch price for those was 350+ iirc

Really wasn't expecting them to be this close. Could have saved about 300 euro looking at prices now

My plan was to pick up a second Titan in a month or so but i'm not so sure now. I'll give my brain a bit of sleep and then decide what to do

Is there going to be a market for 2nd hand Titans, given how close the performance of the 780's is? Ok the Titan has double the VRAM, but is somebody going to pay a price in the 2nd hand market that would leave the original Titan owner any better off. He might be up by around, what £50 max?

The GTX780 is only 20% to 30% faster on average than the previous generation high end cards. Those cards had similar if not a greater performance increase over the previous generation higher end cards, and cost less and they were still priced too high.

We are starting to see high end cards hitting £550 to £600 for bog standard non limited edition models.

I really hope the lower end cards down the range are priced below £350.

Ahh, but the 780 was not really planned to be a 700 generation card, so it cannot be expected to perform 60-100% faster than 600 series. It was supposed to be the GTX670/680, but NVidia lucked-out with AMD's low clocked and underpoerforming 7900's, so were able to sell quickly renamed GTX 660 and 660TI parts as GTX 670 and 680. That probably allowed them time to mature the process for Titan and the GTX 780, avoiding many of the issues which affected the GTX 480 (power consumption, heat, poor yields). Titan and the GTX 780 are the true GTX480/580 successors, having similar GPU sizing and sharing 384bit buses.

£600 for a GPU? I know the pound has taken somewhat of a beating in the currency markets but that takes the P. Same cards at £600 here are $649 in the states.

Yes but you have to remember we live in the UK were everything is more expensive, Why ? because they can get away with it and no one does anything about it.

Unless you're in to CAD, not many, a small OC on a 780 out performs a titan.

Titan performance for £200-£250 less..almost looks like a bargain. £550-£600 for a card is still a lot. People who bought Titan should have waited for this xD
