My parcel turned up about 15 minutes into the delivery window, and I had a long chat with the driver about the new system.
Apparently they have a built in delay of about 15 minutes, so that the displayed map actually shows where the drivers last stop was and not where he actually is now!
He explained that is partly a security measure, as it would be all too easy for an organised gang to hijack a vehicle if they knew exactly where it was at a given time.
It is not usually obvious to see exactly where a driver will go next, although it is often not that hard to work out!
Once the delivery has been made, then the map is, of course no longer visible.
I think this new feature must have impressed a lot of vendors, as DPD are apparently have to turn contracts away at the moment as they only have a finite amount of resources available.
As others have already said though, it is a very impressive system, and what, I wonder will be the next step?... a camera on each van perhaps!
