Part of me thinks people are giving Assad too much credit - another part wonders if he has complete control over his military - I.e. is it possible the weapons were used without the government's request.

I agree it's hard to trust anyone, even when or if supposed evidence is presented.

Sometimes I sit and wonder if GD is where all of the conspiracy theorists on the internet gather and share their drug and alcohol fueled nut job scenarios.

There are a lot of crackpot conspiracy theories out there but there's also being completely naive on the other end.

yes it has been used and confirmed by the Syrian govs, but their army have not used any sort of weapon. the FSA used those chemical shells on people and made it to look like the Syrian army did it. Those shells were provide by western govs to the FSA via the Turkish gov.

I guess we'll have to wait and see when the report is finished but you'll probably find communications intercepts etc... and a fair bit of other evidence for the Syrian Army to be behind this as opposed to any rebel groups. I doubt very much Obama is going to launch an attack on the mere chance it was Syrian govt forces behind this rather than a rebel group.

Tbh... we should have intervened earlier - 100,000 people dying via conventional weapons should be an event way over any red line... without even considering another few hundred - thousand more from a chemical attack.

The Western powers backed themselves into a corner when they said using chemical weapons was a 'red line'. Now if they do nothing they look weak and foolish, and if they do act they just look foolish.
