*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Watched my first movie last night via Netflix on the device, was brilliant :D

I ended up returning my 32gb and getting the LTE version.

A question is there any tarrifs that is purely data only? All I seem to find it you can get this many calls, this many text and 1gb data, etc.

I dont need any calls or text :(

Plenty https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=data+only+sim

Huzzah, just got a text from my uncle and he's bought me a Nexus 7 from NYC.
Think it's come to around £190 for the 32GB.

I've bought my case, and will pick it up this weekend or early next week.
I cannot wait, hopefully this will replace my laptop for pretty much everything.

Oh it will. When I got my SGS2 back in 2011, I stopped using my laptop altogether. When I got the 1st gen Nexus 7, I gave my laptop away. But the 2nd gen is a whole different level of awesome! :)

any way of telling nexus media importer what app i want to use when streaming a file ??? want to open up RAW files of a CF card but the default gallery will not open raw files so i need to use rawdroid or something like it

Go into applications in settings and clear the gallery apps defaults, then see if it'll give you the option next time you open a RAW file.

That's impressive, I have an SGS3 and always use my laptop.
I don't like it for browsing at home, but when I'm out and about it's great

no defaults were set :( not sure what that means

I think it means that when you click on a link or file type it asks you which program you want to open it with "Always" or "Just once". If you've previously selected "Always" u'll need to clear the defaults to get the two options back.

its 179 with the code TDX-PWG3

£20 off when spend over 150

That's what i paid from there this week, what an awesome piece of kit much nicer than my old N7, got a cheap case off ebay for £5.99 with a free pen and screen protector and its lovely! really surprised.

How are folks tethering their non-LTE tablets to their phones?
I'm interested in the Nexus 7, would want to use it out and about, but don't fancy springing for the LTE version.

Can one tether with bluetooth, or only via wifi access point hosted by the phone. I'd like to be able to set up phone and tablet once, then as long as the two devices were in the same room/train/car etc, the tablet would always be able to access the phone. Is such seamless operation possible yet?

Has anybody bothered rooting theirs?
I'll probably root it straight away, just for Titanium Backup and Cerebus

As pure Google device, I've not rooted my 2013 N7, and didn't with my gen 1 N7. It's virtually perfect as it is, bar adverts. Phones I root within minute's but the latest N7 Imho is the best tablet at any price you can buy. Leave it be I say.

Also worth checking out Samba mobile... ok it's not a 4G sim but it's free data for watching some videos on their site. I don't even watch them, have them running muted in a separate tab :D

Any one rooted there's, is it worth it and easy today

I rated mine a couple of days ago, mainly to be able to install a proper adblocker, and get QuickICS browser back.

Very easy using the tool available over at the XDA forums. There's a program for windows that can do it all, very useful.

Amazing tablet in my opinion, I've just returned mine as I always end up barely using them after a couple of weeks but if anybody is in the market for a tablet I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one :)

Ahaha - I'm in the same boat - hardly used it after the initial 'ooh its so shiny' factor wore off! :)

My only disappointment is trying to type on the darn thing - its a nightmare - but otherwise it's an awesome tablet - best money can buy at moment.

Which cases do people recommend for this? Needs to cover screen and also work as a stand for viewing media on planes/trains? Thanks,

I started off with the MoKo case but then switched to the Poetic Slimline one. Both very similar and do what you want, I just wasn't 100% happy with the MoKo cases metal clip on the front flap. In contrast the Poetic has the metal parts inside the front flap and has three magnets so an even stronger close. The Poetic case also has slightly better protection around buttons and charging port.

Both were about £15 before delivery and got them from the rainforest. The Poetic came all the way from the US but arrived within a week.
