You're not seriously suggesting that Rafael is in the same league as Baines are you? Rafael is very good, and potentially excellent, but he's not as good as Baines. Not even close....seriously?
if the figures banded around for Baines are true then he's easily £25m+

Played at a higher level, yes. Younger, yes. Has more potential? Debatable. Is in the same league as Baines is now? Still no, not even close.Indeed, he's younger, has more potential and has played at a higher level.
Shami your bias makes all utd fans look bad.
Plus I'm not sure how you can come to the conclusion that rooney is better than kun
He clearly has more potential. Baines is playing at his peak, he doesn't have much (if any at all) potential to improve. The question shouldn't be whether Rafael has more potential, it should be whether Rafael has the potential to be better than Baines.
Given their ages and lifespans, it would be hard to justify spending more on Baines than Rafael. That doesn't mean Rafael's is better or as good as Baines now, just that he represents better value.

You'd think that, but even at his age Baines just seems to get better each year. While I'd agree that Rafael does have more room to improve himself, I would find it hard to agree that he has the potential to be better (at his best) than Baines is right now.
I can see the logic in that, but for me, spending £25m on a right back with known injury issues is madness. At least with Baines you're paying for a proven performer who adds so much, both defensively (a part of his game often overlooked) and offensively. Plus those free-kicks are worth £10m alone surely!
Baines is in a situation that makes it very hard for him to be sold. His importance to Everton means that they can't sell him for anything other than an inflated fee (that could change depending on the length of his contract) but equally any sensibly run club would struggle to justify paying a big fee on him because of his age.
Give the lad a season or something, there's only been four games and its like the rodwell situation again.
He wasn't good enough to clean Michael Browns boots last season and before that he was at the likes of Sheff Wed!
Now he's the second coming because he's young and English. Media hype as per.
I don't know why it's still open to be honest, it's just a **** mega thread for dross now, should have been shut long ago and lets get some other threads open for discussion if people wish.
Agreed completely. I honestly think Baines is the best left back in Europe right now (but admitting I am a little biased), and the way we've built the team around using him probably makes him worth £20m+ to Everton. His age stops him being worth that to anyone else though.
